Forums - Nintendo - If the Wii was in HD.

heres the thing though, the Wii could have been HD without having PS360 graphics. Nintendo could have given us 1080p while still keeping the graphics as they are.

So when you say Wii HD essentially all that means is what the Wii looks like now, except with a higher resolution. Wii HD would essentially look the same except better colors and look HD-shiny. The graphics would be the same.

At which point third parties would just rag on the Wii's severe graphical inferiority compared to the PS360 as they do today, and reject the notion of Wii development on that basis.  Nothing would change.

Super World Cup Fighter II: Championship 2010 Edition

Wrong, Wrong, Wrong, Wrong, WRONG!!!

Without the proper high-end graphics that PS3 and 360 has, HD means NOTHING! (for a current gen console.)

HD + Made for HD graphics walk hand in hand friend. just sayin, without one the other is useless.

Exactly. That is my point. Saying "Wii HD" means nothing. Soon the 360 with have the original Perfect Dark on arcade. It will be in HD, however the graphics will still be N64 (for the most part). HD is not the argument here, graphics is the argument.

The current Wii in 1080p would be amazing IMO.

Like others have said, a Wii HD would have had the opposite effect the Wii did. Since Nintendo can't subsidize their hardware, its retail cost would have been far too high to allow the same kind of growth. Nintendo would have risked certain death.

This is why the idea of Nintendo rushing out a high definition revision is laughable, it would be abandoning everything that made them the success. People like Pachter who constantly brings this up have an obvious agenda, which involves harming Nintendo and the Wii. Even when Reggie stated clearly that it is not happening, even when people gave reasons why it would be the biggest mistake they could make, he's still insisting that it's going to happen yet he quickly took back his claim that the PSP Go was a ripoff (which it is). I can't believe people still listen to the man.

So u guys think the next ninty console will be called wii or not? Because Wii 2, Wii HD is just a name we give it, like xbox 720.

Our last 3 nintendo system have not had a standardized naming scheme. And they have all been vastly different. However, there was the Nintendo Entertainment System, and then they next one was called the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The NES and SNES were not really vastly different (let me know if you think/know otherwise). If the next Nintendo console is not another drastic change, I foresee a Super Wii on the horizon.

I kind of like the design of the Game Cube. Maybe they will bring that back, only slot load with a proprietary HD disc format , and make it look even more sexy.

I'm personally glad the Wii isn't HD. It differentiates itself quite well, and that is why it is a gaming phenomenon. Therefore, let's keep the Wii just as it is!

I'm perfectly fine with the graphics...but if the resolution itself was HD it would look so much more pretty on my HDTV ;_;.
