I'm really debating whether $99 is worth it for an upscaling DVD player that will play the occasional HD-DVD. I just went through the movie lists for HD-DVD and Blu-ray and got a good chuckle out of them.

Good to see that HD-DVD released a bunch of Kubrick films. I always wanted to watch a 4:3 movie in high definition. Caddyshack in high def sounds great, too. As does The Breakfast Club. A young collection of Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, Emelio Estevez, Molly Ringwald, and Ally Sheedy in 1080i excites me to no end.

The Kubrik films are out on Blu-Ray also.

I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic and saying that those movies being in HD mean nothing since they really arn't graphic masterpieces to begin with.

Oh I know.  4:3 and all that nonsense.  I was just pointing it out for those who don't know.

Tbh, I have never seen a Kubrik film, and I don't plan to see one anytime soon.

Walmart is advertising the hell out of this sale. I've seen it on a couple different channels on prime time tonight. National prime time television advertising is only for major sales.

Yeah, I just saw an ad for it as we speak.

Currently Playing:

PS4 - Killzone:SF and Assasins Creed 4

Wow man! When you run your car into a tree do you call up ford and demand a free replacement? Just because its digital doesnt mean it should be treated like any other property. You slam your game to ground its YOUR fault, even if its an accident lol

And yeah , sure, you care about copyright protection because you are worried about all the little kiddies out

there that broke their copy of Sponge Bob. These movie/media companys have WAY to much $ invested in these properties to have them easily stolen. There are many reports that Transformers HD-DVD have been easily available via torrents. That wont fly with these studios. If these studios stay exclusive Blu Ray should be just fine, plus in next 2 months Sony should sell 2-4 million PS3.

That comparison of crashing my car into a tree versus damaging a cd is like comparing apples to dragons. One costs several thousands of dollars in raw materials and man hours to make and another costs a few cents of plastic stamped out of a machine that while the initial cost is huge should be pennies compared to the value of product it stamps out. Do you really think its reasonable for damaged media to be replaced for full price? Even if you send in the damaged one to verify it is indeed damaged its not like I called Nintendo up and said hey send me SSBM for nothing I won't prove that I do or do not own it! This is keeping in mind the fact that I'm supposed to have the right to back my media up myself but these companeis refuse to let me. It'd be one thing if I broke it and didn't have a backup because of my own willful ignorance then make me pay full for a new one its another when these guys do everything they can to willfully take our rights away. Its part why as much as I dislike Microsoft atm they are proving to be hugely brilliant with excelent customer service for replacing damaged discs of their games. They are not running a hypocritical line like Nintendo, Sony, and all movie makers are currently of saying we take away your right to make backups but we won't replace media for reasonable costs either.

And no its not because I'm worried about the kiddies I'm worried about my own rights with media. Besides being a console gamer I'm a PC gamer and fortunately the PC unlike the consoles has allowed me to burn copies of my games and use those play while the originals sit safe in their boxes the same for any movies in the house that see a lot of use because face it even if you are careful things get damaged. Yes the SSBM cd was my fault whatever since you are latching to that but what about the hundreds of other discs that I own and I'm sure others do too that they were careful consistently with and still got scratched. What about all the 360 owners who have never done anything wrong with their discs and they were scratched by bad drives. I think it would be a better world if we could just make back ups of our media like the law says we are supposed to have don't you?

that's a shame, Kubrik has made many of the greatest films in semi modern cinema.

To me Blu-ray is an arhaic format laden in digusting consumer limiting DRM. HD-DVD isn't much better but at least it has less and should be as easy to copy as a DVD is now. Which is exactly why Disney HATES HD-DVD because their number one customer? Children. Children break things and when things break they want parents to cough up more money for a replacment disc yea that sounds like a great future to me. If there is one thing I can't stand from companies its this bull shit about full prices for replacment media its the one huge beef I have with Nintendo when my SSBM disc got scratched cause an overexcited friend pulled the Gamecube to the ground the disc popped out and got scratched by the spinning head. They wanted 30 bucks or the price of a new one to replace the damn 10 cent piece of plastic completely unacceptable.

So as far as the format wars go Toshiba I hope they bury Blu-Ray even though it would have been the greater technology otherwise. At least they have shown some semblance of decency towards their consumers unlike Sony/Blu-Ray consortium and their obsession with DRM technologies

bullshit, do you actually think anyone believes your soapbox spiel? you just want to pirate rentals, just like you're probably doing with your "backup" DVD collection... cheap b@$t@rd

Wow thanks for the personal attack buddy. For your information not that its any of your business every single DVD in this house was purchased legally at a retail location. As are every single one of my PC and console games except for the MMORPGs that were digitally purchased and thankfully have no media that need to be stored. Nice to see though that your only rebuttal to me was to call me a thief and a bastard take your gradeschool insults elsewhere please.

And by the way if you think I'm such an accomplished pirate why would I waste breath discussing with people why I think the things companies are doing is wrong and just sit quietly mod my consoles and steal them anyways? No real pirate I've ever known spends time worrying about making the things they do easier they just do it and laugh off copy protection schemes as they go.
