Because sony is not like other companies that bring out a console then in 2-3 years bring out a whole new system and screw all those who bought the previous model with no game support. Sony knew the market has changed they looked at the ps3 as a 10 year investment, sometimes the first few years are hard but the next few for sony will turn tons of profit and be hugh for the Ps3 putting them back on top. Not saying they havent made mistakes but they will learn from them and be on top again. WATCH.

Ummm you guys need to do a little research instead of blindly following sony. Put down the kool-aid for a sec and wake up to reality.

Shockingly, upstart VIZIO is number 2 and Sony dropped from 2nd to 5th place in just 1 year.

There you have it. Sony is on the "cutting edge" of absolutely nothing. They lag far behind their competitors in EVERY product line they have. And while sony is making billion dollar losses, microsoft and nintendo are making billion dollar profits.

Sometimes the truth hurts.

So it would last 20 years so they could skip a generation.

Yes, Samsung does make Sony LCDs.. they manufacture them to be specific, which doesn't mean the Sony uses Samsung screens.

Additionally, Samsungs tvs are in fact worse than Sony tvs. A lot of them have features (software features) that cause errors and makes the tv perform badly or die.

Their tvs are not the same. The screen is just a small component of a tv and it's likely that Sony has copyright on their screens.

Everything else you mentioned was pretty accurate except that

a) everyone knows that sony erricson is dying and pretty much sucks as a business.

b) the xbox came out AFTER the ps2.

But yeah, Sony isn't at the forefront of tech. But the reason they are failing isn't because they don't have the #1 product, but because this economy doesn't allow room for people to splurge on brandname.

But on Sony,people say they are not at the cutting edge anymore,but they are also not the worst products either,it does show the power of brands and Sony made it to the top,basically and there is only one way to go when you get up there,

people like Sony,Panasonic,Phillips,Samsung,LG and Toshiba in the shops over here,are there any makers that are above or equal to this lot in europe

Im not even going to respond that all the companies you mention Vizio, Acer specialize in those respective fields whereas sony is in all of them.....its not worth my time to have a logical argument or debate with you since youre on a clear mission and probably spent thousands on HD-DVD and are still bitter.

But as for the bolded. You must love the PS3 compared to the 360 this gen then what with the reliability compared to the 360 and Uncharted and Killzone the best looking console games of their genres. Take care.

In the current economy and mentality if you want to be first you need to sell product at a very low price whatever the quality of it. ACER is a good example, they have crappy product, a lot of faulty laptop that keeps on breaking. If they sell more doesnt mean that they are better than Sony, witch is clearly not the case.

Some of what your saying may be true but your argument doesnt make any sense with your conclusion. If your argument would be to prove that Sony is not the market share leader, than fine. But your argument doesnt prove anything about Sony not offering good product or not trying to be at cutting edge technology. You could be the company that offer the best products and be last because your selling them 20 X the price of the others.

Edit: and heres a small hint for you, when company like consumer report evaluate things they usually dont evaluate the average life of the appliances. Which mean that some time they will recommend the worst product on the market, because its cheap and offer a lot of features. Ive seen that a couple of time in the line of my work.

ill tell you why, look at the results of the ps3 know, the only prblem with the ps3, was its advertisent, and the lack of launch games it had, yes the price was to high, but if Sony advertised the ps3 and launched games like gt5 then things eould have been a massive diffrence, and as you can se from the relsut of proper advertisment and propr games, the ps3 is doing amazing
