History is not a matter of opinion. I don't give a crap if you think Superman 64 is the best game ever, the first decade of the millenium ends in 2010. "Common Discourse" does not dictate facts it dictates opinions. Intentional ignorance of reality is not okay.

Destructoid is wrong in calling this "the first decade of the new millenium", yes, especially because the first year of the referred-to decade (2000) was actually the last year of the 20th century. You are right! That cannot be argued.
But talking about the period of ten years ranging from 2000-2009 and referring to it as a decade is not incorrect, strictly speaking. Destructoid made a big boo-boo, but the spirit of the article is still all right.
Personally I thought leaving out Majora's Mask was a much bigger flub but that is me
I just beat Shadow of the Colossus 15 min ago. I can see how it's innovative and unique, but I don't really like figuring out what to do with some of the colossi.
I've only played 11 out of these 50 of which 5 are in the top 10. I might try some of the other games out.

Plus when media is put into categories it's done by 60's (1960-1969), 70's (1970-1979), 80's (1980-1989), etc you don't hear an "80's" station play music from 1981-1990 or 1971-1980 they play 1980-1989 so 2000-2009 is A decade and will be the 00's decade, it really doesn't matter when the AD years started :P

People celebrated the millenium on January 1st, 2000 because they are idiots. Whether the masses beleive it or not does not make it true. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_zero#Third_millennium The millenium began in 2001, the decade does not end until 2010. Professional media shouldn't make this mistake, but sadly they do. |
You are forgetting one thing -- if people believe something to be a certain way, even if it is technically incorrect, it becomes the accepted way of thinking about that particular concept.
In other words, most people group millenniums by the first number (thousands digit) on the year in AD/CE form, group centuries by the second number (hundreds digit), and group decades by the third number (tens digit).
Thus there less than a month left in the 00s (aoughts) -- so time for games of the decade list.
As for the list, I thought the top 10 showed a bias toward large, open adventures, some of which were not commercial successes and thus may not be on everyone's list.

Missed the point. There was no 0000 AD. It started with 0001 AD. This means the current century didn't really start until 2001, which means the current decade doesn't end till 2010. |
OH FOR GOD'S SAKE WE'VE HAD THIS DEBATE A MILLION TIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!
"For example, "the 1950s" refers to 1950 through to 1959 (inclusive). In English, "decade" can also be used to specify any period of ten years" ~Wiki
2010 is the start of the next decade. DEAL WITH IT.

Oh, wow. That's the first smiley I've seen from you, I thought you avoided such things!
Anyway, not a fan of the list. I agree that the most questionable is picking Civ3 over Civ4, that's the first I've ever seen...
More importantly, has anybody noticed how they seem to find no value at all in multiplayer? I don't understand why these lists never give multiplayer games the credit they deserve. Where the hell is Counter-strike (too early I hope)? How can Smash Bros be so low? How is Halo completely missing from the list?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but... I don't see a single RTS or racer up there!
I know, people will always disagree on things, but these lists always seem to pretty much ignore one of my main reasons for gaming, the social aspect.
