Forums - Gaming - The meaninglessness of "HD Twin" term, predictions & prize for being right.

They're the two most similar consoles ever.

I'd have to say that I agree with this.

Pixel Art can be fun.

Their retail gaming libraries are somewhere between 80-90% exactly the same. If it weren't for the online components and the BluRay player, they would be damn near interchangeable. As it is, they still largely are interchangeable.

Actually whereas twins grow more and more different with time, the PS3 and 360 are getting more and more similar.

Pricing and online networks are getting more similar, to name two.

the importance of the HD twins is that they are conservative game consoles, they improve on graphics, online and such. Wii does not.. well it has online wich the gamecube didn't have.. but its barely a online service..

HD twins are not changing the industry drastically (and IMO in a bad way) but the Wii is basically THE console for casuals..

Currently playing: MAG, Heavy Rain, Infamous

Getting Plat trophies for: Heavy Rain, Infamous, RE5,  Burnout and GOW collection once I get it.

They are called twins because they are both substitutes of each other. They both have more or less the same value curve. And yes, the last gen could also have been called 'triplets' by the same standard.

Agreed to completely disagree.

These curves were done scientifically. You might disagree with some points, but it's obvious that no matter what you do, the value curves for the HD consoles are going to be quite close and very different from the Wii, hence the term.

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

I will continue to use this term

people who get "angry" or think we are insulting "PS360" by using it need to seriously think about not being this "picky"

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

I thought it was only in reference to the fact that this gen two consoles offer HD graphics and one doesn't, linked to the adoption/preference for SD TV / console and HD console / TV.

That's always made some sense.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I think for most people it's much more than that.

They both have HD graphics of similar quality, an unprecedented number of multiplatform games between the two, similar online systems, similar controls, focus on media features (DVD/Blu-Ray, netflix, downloading movies etc), similar price (except perhaps when the PS3 was launched). On the business side they both lost tons of money to their respective companies, both were loss-leading, marketed towards the same demographics...

There's not much to choose from between the two beyond a few exclusive games, Blu-Ray and the paid/free online.

It's not an insult as some seem to take it, merely the realization that the two consoles are REALLY similar.

@OP

You're wrong.

The term is very descriptive as the 2 consoles are very alike and the only other console is WAY different.

You may hate the term all you like, but it makes sense.

HD twins , the Orphan

I'm can live with both names.
