US Bayonetta demo shows minor improvements
Posted on December 5, 2009 by Nick

Bayonetta has been a bit of a sore subject for PS3 owners. The game was designed from the ground up on the Xbox 360 by Platinum Games, who handed the project off to Sega to work on the PS3 version. Initial reports indicated that the PS3 version was running quite a bit worse than the 360 version, which was confirmed when the game hit retail in Japan just about one month ago. The Japanese gaming publication gave the 360 version a perfect 40/40, but docked 2 points from the PS3 version due to the issues, and Japanese gamers brandished the PS3 version with the nickname 'Bayorekka', a play on words that could be translated to something like Brokenetta.

Earlier this week, rumors hit that Sega had enlisted the help of Sony to get the game up to snuff. I contacted both Sega and Sony but couldn't come up with anything conclusive. Nonetheless, it looks like the rumors may have some truth to them, given credence by a Japanese tech analysis.

This past Thursday, Sega released the Bayonetta demo on the US PlayStation store. The same Japanese user that ran a tech comparison between the Japanese demos took a look at the US demo over the past weekend. The result shows some minor improvements in terms of frame rate. Whereas the original Japanese demo(up to the bridge segment) ran at an average of 30.7 frames per second, with 19.0 and 44.0 at the low and high points, the US demo runs at an average of 34.5 frames per second, 19.5 and 56.5 at the lowest and highest.

Screen tearing still seems to be an issue, with 50% of the frames tearing in the US demo. The colors still appear to be rather washed out in comparison to the 360 version as well. Overall, a good improvement, and considering the lead time needed to get a demo up on the PSN, hopefully Sega can boost the performance even more before the games early January release.

Don't know if its true since the site is quite biased xD

Not sure how old this thread is, sorry if I'm resurrecting it, but I noticed the textures in the train are still inferior to the 360 version, so if Sony/Sega had replaced some textures, I didn't notice.

What's wrong with resurrecting a thread!?

A conclusion hasn't actually been reached has it?

It's been almost a year since the game's release, having platinumed the game, I'll say Sony/Sega did nothing for the game's release other than adding a harddrive install (Funnily enough after I platinumed the game).  Whether they did anything to the demo or not is irrelavant at this point.

Yet another thread that needs to be locked.

What's wrong with resurrecting old threads!? I see so many people complain, but its just plain awesome that I can go and check out what was discussed several years before and have some fun with it.

It's not like it should bother you. And if people are willing to traffic old threads then what's the loss for VGChartz?
