Forums - Sony - New ps3 TV ad campaign...ZOMG AWESOME.

I'm a little torn by these ads. Clearly, these are better than the previous ones; they don't have that "What the hell, that's just creepy" effect.

On the other hand, my MAIN complaint about their previous ads was that they almost exclusively appealed to the male, age 16-25 demographic, and that problem still remains. This simply isn't going to appeal to girls, women, young boys (say sub 10), or adults over the age of 40. It's almost exclusively a young male badassness that not only doesn't attract women, but can actually repel them.

And what game from the ad are supposed to appeal to women and girls  ?  If it had Singstar LBp Afrika i might have agreed to a certain extent.  But they arent marketing to soccer moms, they have to hit hard at the demographis their current games are made for.  Do you see Warhawk, Uncharted Heavenly as girly games ? i sure dont.  All i see is a pathetic complaint about something sony did well.

You want to market to girls and women you first need a product that appeals to them.

FINALLY some good ads from Sony....it's been a long time. I think the song for that ad was just perfect for its message. But sadly, I also have to agree with Bodhesatva, that the commercial, while great and excellent, still isolated Sony from the biggest consumers of video games, the casuals and non-gamers. Despite the fact that gamers who play more games in real life than its healthy for them, the L337 gamers, and therefore buy more games, they don't buy more consoles. It's usually one console per gamer. And while it's great to advertise to the group who buy a lot of games for their favorite console, a) they already bought and love the console, so you don't need to make them any happier, and b) there is only so much money one hardcore gamer can actually spend to play games. The other customers Sony use to attract are still either playing the PS2 or trying to get a Wii or are playing their 360. So while I'm glad Sony is finally making their kick-ass commercials instead of using creepy babies (really, who the hell thought that was a good idea?!), I'm just concerned that Sony is slowly trying to become Microsoft when it comes to the views it has in providing games, when in fact what Sony has done for the PS1 and PS2 was the very thing they should have done for the PS3.

 Easy there killer.

The PS3 should appeal to the female crowd because the female crowd appeals to the male 15-25 crowd quite a bit.  Why do you think so many families are getting Wii's?  Its not because "dad" wants it, its because mom wants it.  Women get their way in the relationship when it comes to purchase far more than men.  So if you can at the very least make your product appeal to them on a commercial you can help the guys convince their wives that it would be an "ok" purchase.

More than that there are some girls/women will/do enjoy the PS3 and sony should market to them as well.

With that said this ad shouldn't be tasked with hitting all of these birds with one stone.  A single ad or campaign can appeal to just one section of the product demographic and target other ads down the road at the rest.

So in conclusion it is a good ad and it will sell consoles to its target demographic. I think Bodhesatva would agree with that. But I don't think you agree or understand me when I say that Sony should be thinking about the women and it should be trying to appeal to them on some level.

@SQL you forgot to mention the fact that the Wii appeals to 15-25 years old students too who can use the Wii to score chicka's (I would not be surprised if the next America Pie movie will have a strip tease scene when playing a Wii game).

They are getting the wii casue its cheep and its software is family/child oriented.

This is a $400 or $500 console and theres not one reason for a girl/women to buy it now.  To make the ad more girl friendly would be a waste.

A commercial with Singstar, Buzz, home, LittleBigPlanet, Afrika should be made to appeal to women and be put on during girly kid shows and oprah, but now they have no produts that appeal to that demographic.

Actually, at its $399/399EUR price-point, it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to market the PS3 as a casual device. Maybe as a BluRay player, but it's still not that crucial sub-$300 territory. I'm sure SingStar will get a much more broad-based, family-friendly campaign, though.

An interesting ad, because it starts from the white room theme, and then showcases technological bodies defined by blackness - in a way, it's sort of an homage to Hideo Kojima's Beauty and the Beast characters, all shiny surfaces and mutant appendages.

Saw Ratchet & Clank ad yesterday and I do think it does a great job of catching your attention.

@Dolla: The video works, it just takes a really long time to load. At least for me...

Try again, this time formulate an opinion beyond "teh PS3 is for teh menz!~ Teh kiddies and girls shud step aside!" Or at least address one of the points I made.

To Each Man, Responsibility

Denying the wii's price as a big part of sales and the fact most of its games are very child oriented is very ignorant on your part.

If you are to big of a fanboy to accept the way things are theres is no point taking this any further with it being clear you can't have a discussion without being foolish about things.

So please don't quote me anymore, let Bodhesatva answer my first post.
