You don't even need lock on in this game. You just slash at the screen and whatever monsters that are on the screen at the time get killed. Look straight, see enemies? Slash. Turn around, see enemies? Slash. Of course it'll be more complicated than that but something like lock on isn't that necessary in this game unlike Tales where you're doing more short ranged attacks than in this game.

That's the point though... that move system only really works with lockon...

We are dealing with melee combat here.

From what I can see, the game will be like Earth Defense Force. Except you now slash and stuff. But since there's 300 weapons and magic on top of those, slashing won't be just the only thing you do. Look at the EDF vid I posted earlier and just imagine that with slashing and magic and stuff. That's how I think the game will be, and it won't be on rails.

EDF had dual analog.

If your using the Wii-mote to slash you don't have dual analog.

Which means you likely have a turning button or two that turns you 90 degrees.

Hence "on rails".

I edited that post, just thought I'd let you know.

Anyway, it won't be just like Soriku says :P If it's on rails, you'll still move sideways and jump and block, they say there are also a lot of weapons so maybe they make a difference. There's also dismemberment and enemys of many sizes, so I doubt slashing kills enemys automatically.

So Dragon Quest Swords meets Sin and Punishment?

Pretty much, I guess. But then that's just what I got from the footage, it may be entirely different :P

I'm not sure if you have the same definition as me...but for me an on rails game is a game you can't move forward or backwards in. It moves for you. Moving left and right degrees is different from moving straight/back and if that's the only way you have control then it's on rails. I think you'll be able to move straight/back like in EDF in this game though considering it has the same type of radar and there's enemies behind you (not what happens in on rails games), hence me thinking it won't be on rails.

That's not what an On-rails game is.

See Killer 7 for example.  Killer 7 is an onrails game... yet you move foward and back at your own power.

All On rails means is that you don't have full 3-D movement.

For example.  Say you had this game... and you used controlstick to move, wiimote to slash, and B and Z to turn 90 degrees

You hit B, go 90 degrees and move from 1 track to another.

/\

See? And it's not an on rails.

Wiimote won't be a problem for the gameplay

And how do you look left and right in that mode?

I'd guess the mouse right?

What on the Wii replicates that when the Wiimote is already taken?

^But how? What would you use instead of the right analog? Nunchuk motion? :P

Wiimote can attack only if you are pressing a certain button and aim if you are not pressing this button.

Yeah, they can, I know. But I think it would be more likely that you would control your character more like you do on, say, Ocarina of Time. So the Wiimote would never be used for turning, and there'd be button to modifie the analog stick's function from strafing to free moving. A single analog config. But I think that would need a different camera.

I thought OOT used the C buttons for camera controls kinda like Goldeneye used them for strafing.
