Forums - Gaming - RE4 Game of the Decade? Official Resident Evil 4 Thread

Game of the decade is a little bold. I don't know if I would claim any such game as "game of the decade" as there are so many games that could legitimately contest that place that naming an overall winner would be shambolic.

I will say that (a) I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed the game, and (b) I look more fondly back at the game as time goes on.

i think this with 5 are the worst in the series they took out the survival horror part of them this is just an action game i prefer the earlier entries in teh series

i dont think is the best game of the decade, i put it in second or third place, but no one can't denied that this is a great game.

Well I'm not claiming it but simply giving props to the game in its official thread while also furthing discussion about how critically acclaimed it is.  I'm not even sure if I would say it is the greatest game of the decade but would definitely be in my top 5.

Well unfortunately the earlier ones were never scary just badly controller.  More about shock factor due to some pretty bad controls.  Although RE1 remake and RE0 were definitely advancements to the overall quality of the games, none of the originals imo would ever consider to be truly amazing games.  Great indeed but had a lot of flaws.

Now I agree wholeheartedly that RE5 was a complete action game and completely lost its roots.  But you can't make that same argument for RE4.  It still had numerous instances of intense survival action, creepy and intriguing storyline, along with gross but interesting bossess and enemies.  The game was atmospheric.  Only difference was the intensity due to being very cinematic and of course having a competent well functioning control setup which the originals never had.  Not bagging on RE0 or RE1 which I think are amazing, but they would benefit not lose for the RE4 setup.

Game of the what?

Maybe it was THAT amazing a few years ago, but after finishing it on the PS2 a month ago, I'd give it an 8, no more.

Oh it is still that amazing nowadays but not everyone is going to like the way I did or the press did or others did.  But do discuss your likes and dislikes of it as that is what the thread is for.

You were right about the number, not about the series :P

MGS4 is where it's at.

(However, RE4 is indeed a great game).

Bet with Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo that Super Mario Galaxy 2 won't sell 15 million copies up to six months after it's release, the winner will get Avatar control for a week and signature control for a month.

This and Metroid Prime are definitely games I could see as Game of the Decade.

Resident Evil 4 felt like a revolution, atleast for me. Sure, they changed the Resident Evil formula a bit, but in a good way. Some of the horror was taken away, but instead you got smarter enemies. I remember fighting in the village, and climbing up a ladder to find a safe spot to kill the enemies from. But these bastards climb up after you! Not just that, they climb through windows, smashes through doors...The feeling of never being 100% safe was great. The level were you are in a cabin having to defend yourself against a horde of villagers really made you feel like a trapped animal. You could barricade windows and doors but that didn't stop them.
I hope we will see a RE 4-2 soon :)
