I could not agree more that RE4 deserves the top spot for the decade. My personal favorite edition was the Wii version.

But kinda funny how this is something we have to start thinking about considering we start a new decade at the end of this month. Really i would see RE4 as a strong contender along with many others potentially Metroid Prime and Metal Gear Solid 3.

My pick would be Halo 3.

No the PS2 had better games than RE4 last gen. Uncharted1 & 2 are light years better

Incredible game. Did my first playthrough on the cube back in 2005 taking turns with a mate. Then clocked it again on the Wii which I believe is the definitive edition. A few things..

- Fantastic looking enviroments and characters, technically and artistically.

- Same for the game's pacing and flow. Couldnt wait to see what was around the next corner.

- Tight controls.

- Weapons and enemies have a lock and key feel to them. The set pieces, enemies and weapons seem perfectly tailored to each other.

- Cheesy but gripping script and dialogue.

- Loved the abandoned village in Europe look and feel, realy sinister.

- Good difficulty curve and balancing and very fun arcadey gameplay.

- The game is full of content and is incredible value for money.

I want another version of this tbh. On HD consoles, a remix on the Wii, anything....

QUESTION:

Still worth playing if never played but SWAMPED with AAA games for the holidays: U2, MGS4 etc. It would be the Wii version.

EDIT: i.e has it aged well? I'm playing on HD screen and some GC games aged pretty badly *sigh*

Definetely. It has aged fairly well, on a par with the top Wii games and it will look good on an HD set through component.

edit: RE4, WindWaker and Shadow Of The Colossus are tied for single player game of the decade for me.

I personally prefer Prime too but I wouldn't be unhappy if RE4 was awarded GOTD.  I played it through 3 times consecutively after I got it and loved it, obviously.
