Forums - Gaming - RE4 Game of the Decade? Official Resident Evil 4 Thread

Mixing up the titles here.  Resident Evil 4 reinvented the resident evil series forever and for the better.  Evne further it reinvented the way action games would be played for the industry including introducing the concept of cinematic action games which are so popular nowadays.  The creative mind of Shinji Mikami and his team indeed sought to make one of the most immersive games ever.

Discuss what was some of the finer points of this game or why you may disagree with some of my notions.  To me I thought this was one of the most revolutionary games I had played maybe since Ocarina of Time itself.  I had always been an RE fan, but never thought the series was AAA calibury mainly due to poor controls.  This game solved those problems and brought the intensity of a horror game to life.  It also revitalized that of Leon Kennedy who is still one of my most favorite characters ever.  This game topped with a great consipiracy really brought the series to a new level that is still unsurpassed.  What does all the other gamers think of it and do you think it deserves to be called the game of the decade?

Oh, it's definitely worthy of being called game of the decade. I don't know if I would call it that since I might be able to find a game I like more, but I would never ever blame anyone for calling it that. It was a downright fantastic game that brought me into the franchise. Leon S. Kennedy is a fantastic character, imho, and everything in RE4 is just incredible. The only bad part about the entire game is that it ends.

I was actually thinking of making a thread like this yesterday, so imagine my joy when I saw that you'd already made one :)

All hail Resident Evil 4, one of the best games to ever see release. (Too bad that RE5 is nowhere near it's greatness, at least not in my opinion.)

There is something great about RE4 since I have played it like 5 times over..

Take my love, take my land..

Well I was hoping there wouldn't be anyone beating me to this. I've discussed it with Outlaw a lot and to his disapproval I've already started to claim numerous times that this just might be it. I've even gone as far to say it might even be the most influential game of the decade as well. Got more stringent competition there, though, with GTA 3, Wii Sports, Wii Fit, and Halo 1 but still got a shot.

But yes the only real problem I did have with this game was the occasional cheesy dialogue but kinda worked at times. But this game was just an example of a developer completely taking something and reinventing it to make one of the most innovative games of our generation. It combined a witty and impressive control setup with a new way of progressing a story and gampelay. Tie that in with great music, great atmosphere, some of the best graphics for its time, and an enjoyable storyline and you are left with a masterpiece which this is nothing short of.

I'm not completely positive if I think it will be the game of the decade, but easily top 5 and potentially number 1 for me. One of the best games I've ever played.

(Note I've played the GC and Wii version but you can discuss all versions. Except the PC version which was kinda silly). I put it in the GC one because it was the original but all 3 are wonderful and definite additions of the game.

Meh, if you ask me the cheesy dialogue is great :) I think it fits RE perfectly, I wouldn't want it any other way. Imagine if it had still been like RE1, eh? XD Jill sandwiches for all!

Finished Darkside Chronicles about an hour ago and was actually thinking the same thing just now. I think it's a pretty safe candidate for game of the decade. It certainly beats the hell out of any game released this gen so far.

Yes dialogue definitely did improve haha.  Not to mention some really awesome bosses in RE4 as well.  That was definitely a huge factor for my enjoyment of the game.

Yea it definitely is a safe candidated and does beat the hell of a lot of games this generation mainly because almost every action game this gen is trying to be it haha.  Hard to be better then the original with no inspiration.  Really this gen it's hard to find too many candidates but maybe Galaxy and MGS4.

hm... I still love Metroid Prime so much though...

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

you are 4 years late. Game of the Decade? No. for me That would be Metal Gear Solid 3 and after all these years I still stand by it. but hey, to each his own.
