Forums - - Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World Discussion Thread

Obivously these little discussion things are goign to explode with the new feature so don't call me a poser.  Once again another RPG that I bought in necessity to fill that RPG craving.  The game I think was quite a solid one although not the best one ever.  Once again very solid.  So here discuss what you thought of it and compare it to the original along with general discussion among those who did play it.

For me I felt the game really did keep the pace going quite well throughout the game although the twists were guessable and not surprising.  Dynamic characters in the game did really kinda win me over.  Found the struggles to unit between Marta and Emil to be quite cute and the connections to the rest of the characters to be very enjoyable to progress through.  Gameplay wise it was nothing spectacular but something that really didn't make it too awful to repetiviely do which some RPGs can't get over.  Battles did get monotonous everything.

Strength of this game I felt though was how the characters moved in the story and I really did enjoy it on both times going through it.  The addition of monsters to use was fn as well.  What do all the other players think.

I haven't gotten far in it yet, I'm only at the end of Chapter 2. So far I think it's nowhere near as good as Tales of Symphonia (which doesn't say much because I love Symphonia to death), but it's quite an enjoyable ride. There's no doubt in my mind I'm going to see the game through to the end.

I enjoyed the 1.5 times I played it. Started off real slow, and I very much disliked the whiny aspect of Emil at the beginning. Almost turned me off the game completely.

I liked going around and collecting monsters, and joining tournaments. Gave it a Pokemon-esque feeling which was cool.

The whiness of emil never really got to me because if his character didn't do that you would have never believed the story or character development. I won't give out spoilers of course but it had to be that way to make the story work. Music was catchy and I enjoyed it. And yea VA of Johnny was just a nice little treat eh.

yes I'd say the game was underrated not maybe by reviews (as it probably deserved 6s and 7s for being solid maybe some 8s) but by people who kidna like to rag on it for not being original. Sure we know it isn't original but that doesn't mean it isn't solid and this was a solid RPG. I hope they continue the Symphonia series as I'd love to see another one. But for this one it was a fun adventure with compelling story and characters and enjoyed every minute of it or 75 hours I did clock into my 2 playthroughs. Yea Nintendo Channel.

The way it worked out, yes it was probably necessary. However, I was quite excited to begin the game and all I kept seeing were mini cut-scenes and Emil being bullied/whining. Not only did it take forever to progress to a place in the game that was playable for longer than a couple of minutes, but "I" kept complaining and refused to fight back. Annoyed me to no end. I'm glad I didn't stop though - the rest of the game was very enjoyable.

Have to admit that that the first one for the cube was so damn good. That for that reason alone i will be buying this game for christmas..

Seeing Colette stumbling down and saying sorry, will fuel my anger again. Nonetheless.

Haven´t seen any european reviews from the game. But honestly i don´t care..

Will be back for more.

One of my favorite Wii games behind Galaxy and just ahead of NSMB! Played through it twice and was just thinking today that I want to play through it a 3rd time! Although the story line was not as good as the original I still enjoyed every minute of it and loved playing as my favorite character Presea again!!

I think it's underrated even among the Tales fanbase. I'm in the middle of Vesperia now and there really isn't some blatant leap in quality over DotNW and I actually prefer some parts of it to Vesperia.

That said, I actually ended up playing this game a little bit more than Symphonia in total hours. The faster pace and monster system really added some incentive to experiment, and the game is superior to the original in SO MANY WAYS that it's not funny. My only gripe is the length and the fact that, as an experienced Tales player, I can smell the "escort title" all over it with its decidedly scaled back approach to a Tales adventure.

DotNW is a great game and I think it deserved to be more than just an 'escort title'. I've played Symphonia, Abyss, and Vesperia, and DotNW is definitely as good a game as the others. A bit more investment into the story would have really knocked it up a notch.

All the "Tales Of" games are really good, DotNW is no exception.
