VIII's story was one of the highlights in the series?

Exactly how much FF's have you played, perpride?

Every single game in the series. Every spin-off, sequel, prequel, side game. I've gone through most of them twice actually. You?

Most of them. I, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2, XII, Dirge of Cerberus... some of them only once, some of them 4 times...

Point is VIII is hardly a highlight in story... (thank god you didn't say characters).

@g-value: The fact that you're inept in it, doesn't mean that it's bad. Combined with Card Refining and that goddamn Triple crack it's nearly a cheat.

Story wise its a bit more unique than the others in the series. It's the only one that has you playing as a special forces team. Even in FFVII you are just a lone hired gun who's back story is you dropped out of the special forces.  In what other game in the series do you get assigned to snipe assassinate someone?

And there your Special Forces exploits end. Good concept, bad execution.

The game would do better if they went on to expand the Laguna "Soldier/Journalist" line. He is a much better character, and his support cast destroys Squall's.

Besides, how much more romantic is that? LOTS.

FF VIII stands for excellent gameplay, excellent music, so-so story, and shitty characters, save for... Quistis, Laguna, Kiros, Ward (although he didn't get to say much, now did he!)

I wish I had played FFVIII when I actually could play JRPGs. I played it a little bit, but never got into it. Now I know I would get bored after about 20 minutes.

I give this thread a 9.6.

Thank god for the disable signatures option.

I didn't much like the alter characters. But at this point is subjective, we have our likes and dislikes. I mean personally I think X still has the best story, just ahead of VI, and VII. IX being the lowest point in the series.

At least our story favorites go EXACTLY THE SAME WAY!

Final Fantasy X's storyline was indeed amazing. So was it's gameplay, music and atmosphere.

To each his own on characters and story, but how the hell did you not like Zell?  I mean; he's Zell!  The man's hilarious, and all his side stories, make him even more funny.

I respectfully disagree with VIII having a so-so story. For me, it was one of the highlights like I said.

If I were to put them in order, I'd probably say:

1. VII.

2. XII

3. XIII.

4. X

5. VI.

6. VIII

For a series like Final Fantasy, being 6th place for story is damn good.

Am I evil for playing VII instead of VIII?
