It's not as great, it's even more great and thus better! (Note, story is all subjectional and I personally think Final Fantasy VIII had the best story out of the 12. 10 at a close second.)

People complain about being able to use items, lol I never once used an item during battle. Maybe if they had made the junction system more like the materia and esper systems (where you permanently learn a skill/mod on that character) I think people would have liked it better. But yeah I thought the junction system was really good.
