Story wise its a bit more unique than the others in the series. It's the only one that has you playing as a special forces team. Even in FFVII you are just a lone hired gun who's back story is you dropped out of the special forces.  In what other game in the series do you get assigned to snipe assassinate someone?

And there your Special Forces exploits end. Good concept, bad execution.

The game would do better if they went on to expand the Laguna "Soldier/Journalist" line. He is a much better character, and his support cast destroys Squall's.

Besides, how much more romantic is that? LOTS.

FF VIII stands for excellent gameplay, excellent music, so-so story, and shitty characters, save for... Quistis, Laguna, Kiros, Ward (although he didn't get to say much, now did he!)

I didn't much like the alter characters. But at this point is subjective, we have our likes and dislikes. I mean personally I think X still has the best story, just ahead of VI, and VII. IX being the lowest point in the series.

At least our story favorites go EXACTLY THE SAME WAY!

Final Fantasy X's storyline was indeed amazing. So was it's gameplay, music and atmosphere.

Gotta agree with that.

I respectfully disagree with VIII having a so-so story. For me, it was one of the highlights like I said.

If I were to put them in order, I'd probably say:

1. VII.

2. XII

3. XIII.

4. X

5. VI.

6. VIII

For a series like Final Fantasy, being 6th place for story is damn good.

You've played FFXIII?

I played the demo. But I've read the entire story already lol.

I started 2 weeks ago with FFVIII. I am not playing constantly but I arrived already on the 3 disk. And I have all cards you can get upto this point except Riona. Squall sits at LVL 70 and I have pretty much every spell 100 times for every char my chars cant be damaged with magic just with physical dmg because I tied EL DEF with Ultima and with Angel so I get even energy when an opponent uses elemental magic.

I have all GFs which can be reached until now.

even 2 which I missed last time boko and tombery and I got all books for status increase and all my gfs have all abilitys. I wanted to make everthing perfect this time. I will check after I finished the game what I really missed but I have the feeling I discovered everything until now. I discovered probably twice as much as five years ago as I played it last time.

I just have one problem how the hell can I change the rules for triple triad. I never cared about the game so can someone tell me how to change the rule random hand in a certain area ?

Vaan really screwed up the story for me on XII, otherwise I probably would rank it first. He was unlikable for me. My rankings (story+gameplay): X, XII, VII, VI, VIII, IX. We will see where XIII ranks, even if the story is top not I still need to see how good the gameplay goes.

According to someone I have talked to on here,  FFXIII's story is suppose to be really great as well as the gameplay if you don't mind it being linear which you don't since X is ranked at the top for you.

Yeah. Alot of people I've talked to has said that if you love FFX, then you will most definitely love FFXIII.

I know you "spoiled" yourself on Final Fantasy XIII's story Perpride, but even Batman and Robin didn't look bad on paper. Though, even with the enheightened generic "shonen" anime style that Final Fantasy XIII is carrying I have no doubt the story's gonna be good to amazing. Though Final Fantasy VIII ranks second to me, Metal Gear Solid 4 taking the crown for first and I don't think anything is going to change that for me. As long as we can all agree, that Zell's the bestest non main character ever!

Yeah I wanna replay ffviii too. Maybe after I finish ffxiii which I'm just about 8 hours in...hopefully 13 can bring back my addiction to rpg. Lately I got bored really easy...

Currently Playing: Devil Survivor 2 (NDS)

To me, the story seems like it was deffinitley inspired by X. If you liked X, then you will probably fall in love with XIII. I haven't even played it yet and I'm in love with the plot and its characters.

I thought that hype for this game for me could never go higher... but apparently, it sure as hell can. If it's FFX inspired.. then.. oh sweet Jesus. Game of the Generation confirmed. Again. Maybe it can knock FFX from my top FF spot, too... but we shall see 'bout that.
