Just like to point out, it is a very very and I mean VERY bad business plan to blame the user base rather than yourself. Although we are speaking on the outside and might attribute "bad sales" to that of userbase indifference, I would hope a company would never use that as an excuse either. Actually I try not to use that as a reason either cause it is a really bad reason why. Shows incompetence in the company as it shows they are unable to market and hype their games to the userbase. We all know the userbase shares in that problem but it never looks good for a developer to have to hear that reason about their game.

^Maybe the games are poorly marketed, maybe the genre is oversaturated, maybe the games just aren't good enough to justify the sequel, the consumers are never to blame

Kind of funny they translated tomadachi to friend...people will be like...What friend collection? and others will be like 'Wow didn't knew friends was popular in Japan.

but, uhm "tomodachi" does infact mean "friend" as far as I know?

yeah tomodachi means friend, i'm not familiar with the game though.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Huh, PS3 sells 39K and there are only 3 games in the top 30, none of them selling in particularly high numbers (nice to see Ratchet and Clank there). People must still be buying 50/50 for the Blu-ray movies and the games.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers is already out of the Top 30, this game is clearly the biggest bomb of this generation in Japan.

But it's not a problem of the series, it's a problem of the Wii userbase. Almost every sequel has always sold worse than the original game on the Wii. There's a problem there.

Sequels of largely casual games are selling badly. All these casual games are mainly the same so there isn't much incentive to buy sequels unlike other game series like RPGs and such. M&S is doing badly on the DS too for example. Even worse than the Wii one. Is that a problem with the userbase now...?

Sequels to every game. Sequels to Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, Winning Eleven, Dragon Ball, Pro Baseball Spirits, Gundam, Swing Golf, Sonic, Harvest Moon, The House of the Dead, those are not casual games. Even 1st party games like WS, M&S, Endless Ocean and Wii Fit sequels have done much poorly. Big hits like Taiko, Deca Sports, We Ski and Karaoke Joysound saw their sequels do much badly in comparison.

The userbase is increasing in size, while the games are selling less each time, be them new IP's or sequels to popular games. It's a problem of the userbase that has migrated to other consoles, otherwise you have to explain to me how sequels sell more each time on the PS3 but on the Wii, they are going down in sales with each iteration.

We will see how games like RE:DSC, Tatsunoko vs Capcom UA and Tales of Graces fare in comparison to the previous games.
