Forums - Nintendo - Wii FAILED in sales during Thanksgiving weekend

So much wii hate. Nintendo was king in NES and SNES days, everybody loved nintendo. WTF happened? It boggles my mind that everyone considers wii a failure even when it beats both competitors by a large margin. I just don't get it. :(

The Industry doesn't like Nintendo, not out of some conspiracy, but due to a shared mindset which stems from various reasons

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

I love how he conveniently doesn't mention the fact that Wii still outsold PS3 and 360 by some margin.

The only way there wasn't going to be a article like this is if the Wii sold 40 million units this time round. Even if it ended up selling more than the ps2 did people would still say it's doomed.

All it shows is that the fad may finally be coming to an end.

I sorta want Natal to be a huge success so Nintendo gets their shit together.

No, all this shows is the length people will go to bend reality so that the Wii is always 'doomed' and Sony is always ready to make that 'comeback'.

What I do find interesting, is that while people are continuing to label the Wii a fad (can we please stop calling it that?), hardly anyone is bringing up Microsoft's struggle to stay relevant and the PSP Go's disasterous launch. You would think that they'd be dozens of articles headlining the fact that a Halo title did nothing to help keep momentum for the 360, or that the PSP Go was sent out to die at retail, but alas all the journalists are too busy in la la land fantasizing over the Wii's demise, despite console sales have been rising over the last few months.

And Natal, a possible success? Don't make me laugh. At least Sony gave a tentative release date for their birdmen motion control, Microsoft is still in the hype/viral mode and can't be bothered with trivial things like strong 1st party support, letting regular people try it like Nintendo did with the Wii or even treat it as anything other than a repeat of the Microsoft Surface.

In some fairness, in the business world you're considered to either be growing or dying, and Nintendo isn't growing right now.

But yes, the reports of Nintendo's death are greatly exaggerated. And will continue to be.

I believe it's called "sour grapes"...it's  a weird phenomenum I truelly don't grasp...

What's weird is that it's the ps3/360 fanboys calling the wii a failure. If that's true and the wii is a failure for selling the amounts it has, and it's still outselling the competition, then what does that make the competition????

So then why no mention of the millions being lost by EA, Ubisoft, Sony, etc. and the slowing 360 sales?

I mean of the gaming market, Nintendo is probably in the safest, strongest position

According to my textbooks there's also such a concept as 'Stabilization'(which I wont bother explaining as it speaks for itself)...

The marketshare doesn't grow, however the absolute numbers are still growing. (And better than the competition.)

I would also like to see that Nintendo outsells the PS3 and X360 combined every week. But I am a fan.

The whole situation reminds me of a race, where the guy who finished first is called loser, because he didn't etablished a new world record.
