Forums - Nintendo - Should I get Super Smash Brothers if I have never played one

I have always wanted to play SSB, but I never have.  I am not a big multiplayer guy anyway, but Brawl just looks so awesome, I do not think I can pass it up.  Just wandering if I am going to be totally lost in this having never played or is it pretty easy to pick up.  I just want something fun to play with friends and family when they come by, and I like the new story mode.  Any advice for a SSB newby?

Smash is very easy to pick up and incredibly fun to refine your techinique, and the single player mode will be a lot deeper than in previous games so you can have fun even if your not playing multiplayer.

Easy to pick up, great for advanced players as well...

And even if you suck and you were going to play against advanced players, there is always the handicap option, which allows you to deal more damage and take less of it than the advanced player.

Anyway, there's so much fan service in this game...you need to get it.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

maybe even jesus will be in it!

EVERY person in the world must get Brawl... even if you don't like it :)

Yeah, I've never seen anyone who plays any video games at all have real trouble playing Smash Bros. unless they were going up against someone way outside their skill range.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

I have the most epic death scene ever in VGChartz Mafia.  Thanks WordsofWisdom!

I HATE, HATE, HATE this kind of game...always have done, little characters fighting each other just always seemed so pointless and boring to me.

Super Smash Brothers Melee changed that for me and is one of my top 10 favourite games of all time and I'd even reccomend people to buy the GC version to play on Wii if you haven't played it on GC as it's that much fun and has so much to do within in....never did get the final 3 trophies I needed though!

The Wii version will be the only game of this type I buy, the GC version was that good.

If you own a Wii, YES get Smash Bros Brawl. The single-player campaign is already looking deeper than the previous Smash games.

And OMG fan service!

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

I've never played it either but plan to get it. I don't know why it just looks fun. Plus I have friends at work that are looking forward to playing it. And I really want to beat them up.

If you have GC controllers, you might want to buy the GC one as well. Crazy crazy fun. Can't wait for Brawl!

BAM! There it is!
