If the Redmond Company let up now, Sony might just steal this the seventh generation from underneath it altogether.

Just one really tiny, insignificant, minute detail: this the 7th generation isn't currently Microsoft's for Sony to possibly steal. Has it passed notice that Nintendo stole this the 7th generation from Microsoft a wee while ago? Sony has a chance of stealing 2nd place off Microsoft this generation perhaps.

One thing will guarantee Natal going off gangbusters and that's if Halo: Reach is a Natal launch title. I don't think 'XBox 360 Fit' would do the job for them in terms of motivating the current install base. And they'll need the current install base to be motivated by Natal for success, because 40 million+ households already owning a 360 can't be ignored. They'll need a good 10-15% of the current base to adopt Natal for it to be the raging success that they want it to be. With a title that is a known quantity they can get a decent % of the base. Titles that are unknown quantities aren't going to get the base excited enough.

Yeah a repackaged, re-tooled 360 along with Natal would also do the job. I could see that putting 360 well ahead of Wii at least in America for the rest of the generation

2009 will be a middling year for 360, it won't be the best, it won't be the worst.

My problem with Natal is how would you play Halo with it? Actually how would you play any games that we hardcore gamers play. I hope that they release a one hand controller so you can also have buttons or analog at the same time you make movement. For now it seems that natal is aiming towards the casual player market so I dont understand why it is getting so much praise and attention from the current userbase.

MANY people have commented on ways to utitilize Natal is shooter, as just one genre for example...The fact that you can't use your imagination is the same kinda of thinking other had when Xbox first launched live.  Since you mention a shooter...simply...a cover system.

The problem is it wont and cant happen. Its far less realistic and possible than the things people said the wii could do. When people were wondering how the wii would affect "their" favorite games people said FPS will be way better with pinpoint accuracy, throwing frags, sports games like football where you control the velocity and throwing motion, baseball games where you really pitch and hit and time curve balls from games like 2K and the show, golf games, tennis games and what happened? They are all pretty much subpar and people default back to wii sports.

People thinking Natal is going to change how people play halo, gears or forza or fable are going to be very disappointed, imo.

You can say its our imaginations that lack, but we have a direct example with the wii. Theres no AAA shooter that was ground breaking, no AAA baseball game that was ground breaking, this will not be what you think it is to established franchises or in depth, immersive games that we know now. It will be that crazy brick breaker game, and maybe a "seaman" like milo game, and probably games like we see on the PSN right now with the PSEye but more in depth.

Again all in my opinion, but i think youll be disappointed if your expecting something along the lines that you mentioned.

I have no expectation for it to be integrated into a Shooter...I jsut provided an example of what you could do.  I think Natal is going to find a solid market on the 360, and you have every right to think it's going to have a low LTD...that's your opinion.

2010 may well be XBox 360's biggest selling year providing Natal takes off. Price cuts will ensure the XBox 360 exceeds 2009 sales numbers. A lot of good games for 360 coming in 2010 much better than 2009 and 2008 combined. However on the other side it may be the beginning of the end, it will be 5 years since the launch of the XBox 360. Sales do not go up in fifth year.

So they're actually officially saying Natal will "replace" the controller.

They're sure over-hyping this.

It may be the worst for "Hype and Buzz" but financially it isn't. And I'm guessing that is what matters most to Microsoft.

As for next year it should be better than this one without a doubt.

LOL...well yeah...Sony loses 600+ million, and people are cheering about how well it's doing, so it's not about money for some.

Yeah, gamers. For those people, it's a good thing to get their hands on a console at less than the cost of the quality components it's made from.

Way to go with the hypocrisy.

When Microsoft was losing money: Oh look at the monopolistic anticompetitive behemoth that is willing to endlessly bleed money to destroy the competition, to hell with them!

Sony losing money: it's such a good thing that the caring hug bears at Sony are selling us consoles for less than what they really cost, they subsidize our gaming habit out of love and care!

Blasted axe grinders.

well ,you know   : Sony ,Google , Apple , Disney =

Microsoft                                                              =

Some  people are  very pathetic ,..

It's easy when talking about anti-competetive assholes.

First, define anti-competitive, because if you are talking about what I think you are, I'm sure just about every major company in the world would like to be as successful at that as M$ is.

Second, to anyone who thinks MS had a bad year with 360 in 2009, here are some numbers:

For the fiscal terms of 2006 and 2007, the Home and Entertainment division posted 1.3ish and 1.9ish billion dollar loses respectively.

Then they dubbed H and E as EDD, and in fiscal terms 2008 and 2009, posted 460ish and 170ish million dollars PROFIT respectively. So most likely, 2009 was xbox's 2nd best year. Not sure why anyone in their right mind would imagine this was a bad year.

M$ seems hell bent on maintianing themselves in the black, and they are going to play possum until E3, imho. Feburary isn't that far away...
