Forums - Gaming - Do you people see the sale shifts?

I dont think alot of you see them but some do.This late in the gen I dont think their are any games left that can shift sales besides final fantasy,so only price cuts affect sales then mostly.

After xmas 07 when ps3 was outselling 360 in the early months of the year I thought it would outsell 360 by early 09,but one price cut changed that and instead 360 gained a million over ps3.After that I relised how sales will end up like at the end of this gen,I dont meen numbers but I meen who is gaining on who.

The same thing is happening right now, alot of the ps3 fans on this site seem to think ps3 will outsell 360 lifetime sales, which is possible but unlikely I think,ps3 will win its first holiday season against xbox and it will continue to outsell it through out the early to mid part of next year. But then microsoft will most likely drop the price of both systems 50 dollars and sales will shift to 360 again, unless they put natal bundled in with all systems and not drop the price but I dont see microsoft doing that knowing sales will boost most likely tremendously with a 360 price drop and massive marketing of natal.

The question remains will sony drop the price of the ps3 in 2010,that will be very interesting if that happens to see sales.Sony said ps3 will be profitable in 2010 so why would they just want to break even or go slightly into the red with a 50 price cut or go deeper into the red with 100 price cut.I think 100 dollars is close to highly unlikely and 50 dollars is also unlikely but its still possible.

Thats how I think the sale shifts will be like for the rest of this gen but 2010 I think will be the greatest year in gaming history with great games on both systems, but sales wise next year will be very interesting still to see what shifts can happen or how much wii market share can be lost if any.

Every year so far this gen has had MS and Sony switiching places at around the same time in the year. I wouldn't be suprised to see MS on top this time next year with, as you said either a price cut or Natal or most likely both. I say this because currently Natal has more hype behind it. But this is really dependent on the pricing of Natal vs the Wand thing Sony are planning.

What matters really is whether Sony can be profitable. If they can't, then it doesn't matter whether they beat the Wii in sales and have hundreds of exclusives - they won't do a new Playstation.

Don't you think Microsoft can cut the price of the xbox 360 anytime. Don't they have like a zillion dollars!!!!!!!!! lol!!!!

Is it more important for MS to beat Sony, or to lose less money on consoles?

The obvious answer is the latter. They don't REALLY need a price cut do they? Xbox numbers might be less than PS3, but it's still healthy. It's going to take a hell of a lot to convince the higher-ups to drop the price if that will only mean less profit and not much else.

But you're right - people love cheap consoles.

@Dr. Grass: It's more important for them to beat Sony actually. Why else would they bleed cash just to release their console early and gain marketshare before the competitors arrived?

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

Because gaining market share means more profitability, but there isn't a 1-to-1 relationship between market share and profitability.

At THIS point, is it worth losing more money to shift more consoles, or is it better to sell less but make more cash?

PS I don't want this to turn into a flamewar please since I've had at least a dozen today and I'm about to go to bed ;)

That Gran Turismo game might move a console or two.

It's better to not to have to make any games or consoles at all and just recieve a huge cheque. Consoles are a means to an end, and 2006-2009 Sony forgot that.
