alright so i got attacked the other day, some cheap viruses *my mcafee subscription ran out* and since it ran out i decided to get AVG and Microsoft Essentials *i researched and everything*, so now i was look through my mail, and i opened SPAM, i could not believe it, it looked just like if ebay *i ebay ALOT* sent it to me, i opened the link and boom, BLUE screen, so i just wanted know if my AVG protection suite and Microsoft Antivirus should be kept on my PC, i know Mcafee sucks in comparison, but it really kept me content the time i had it, i just wanna know what you guys think.

1. SO WHAT ANTIVIRUS/SECURITY DO YOU USE? SHOULD

2. I CHANGE THE TYPE OF PROTECTION I HAVE NOW?

Step one, Make sure you if you are uing IE that you stop using IE. I personally suggest Firefox + The NoScript addon to greatly reduce the amount of malware you encounter while surfing.

As for Antivirus, I dunno.

Definitely get AVG free. it freakin owns everything else.

For a firewall, I highly recommend ZoneAlarm Free edition, but make sure you just get the free, the "full" version is totally not worth it at all. Also, if you have Windows 7, they don't have a version of the free firewall out for it yet just FYI.

For a browser, to be honest, if you are using IE8, you will be fine. I personally like Firefox better because of the addons, but IE8 is at least as secure though it is a little slower. Pretty much all the old security issues with IE are no longer valid with IE8. MS did a really fantastic job with the security in it and they release almost weekly security updates. Google Chrome is also secure and lightning fast but it has some rendering issues.
Opera and Safari are also secure though I personally don't like them (especially Safari...), but the latest versions of FF, IE, Chrome, Opera, and Safari are all secure within reason.

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it

sorry i should have been more clear, im using the microsoft security essentials, its sorta new in the anti virus business, anyways, im running chrome but it does feel unsafe with chrome, but its just so much faster than mozilla, thanks for the advise ill try zonealarm

AVG + Firefox + NoScript.

You gotta be an idiot to get anymore viruses then.

Don't forget to "/run -> msconfig" to check if anything suspicious is starting up on boot.

Avast is still the best virus protection in my book.

I'm a technician and my customers commonly have AVG. Avast does a a good job finding viruses that AVG missed.
