Forums - Gaming - Treyarch should leave Activision (Opinion)

It's been a while since I last created a thread with a personal opinion.

First of all, this is not a rant against Treyarc, I respect them as a developer company. This is my opinion of why leaving Activision might help Treyarc reach new levels in game development and why remaining will only bring its downfall.

I do not think it's fair to Treyarc, who has a longer history in game development accross many genres,to be treated by many gamers as a shadow (or less) of Infinity Ward juet because of the Call of Duty franchise. I see in many forums and blogs that put IW in a golden pedestal and Treyarch as mediocre, by just that franchise (IW has only made CoD games, check here, while Treyarc worked on these games). The only thing I can agree is that Infinity Ward has broken more ground with the franchise than Treyarc (after all it's their baby to begin with).

Treyarc has shown potential in game development far beyond IW because of their wider spectrum and their work on more platforms. But, in my opinion while remaining with Activision they cannot expand and grow, they are stuck. They should leave Activision, I don't care if they lose the company name, but the team needs to go in order to have the freddom they need under a publisher that appreciates their efforts better.

What do you guys think?

I think CoD WaW was by far the best game that they have ever made, and with the financial power of Activision, they might be able to make some other decent games

Doesn't Activision own Treyarch? Would be hard to leave.....

Had to change my sig to get some moderator to quit bitching about it......

While many people prefer IW over Treyarch, I respect Treyarch more, also because they're good enough to work on all platforms(while IW works just on "chinematographic platforms...).
I would like them to leave Activision, but I'm not sure they would be able to produce good games, without the moneay and instruments Activision has...

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

I thought of that as well. but there must be another publisher that will give them the push and funds.

It's not like they are much special, with most other companies cutting jobs, I don't see why they would buy Treyarch

When you really think about, those guys work pretty hard and aren't given enough freedom. However, it's tough for an independant dev to survive these days without being tied to a large successful company.

EDIT: Also, Activision often gets Treyarch to do some porting work that no one else will.

4 ≈ One

IW and Treyarch should leave Activision and find a 1st party studio like sony or microsoft. They can then reach amazing levels.

I don't think they need to leave Activision. I just think they need to get out from under the CoD shadow that they are in. I loved WaW. I thought it was better than MW1. MW2 is another story thought. But I think they should get their own projects, this CoD a year thing is starting to make me mad.

Hi, this is Vince with Shamwow.

I dunno know. I wonder if Activision really wants them to do other stuff and have more freedom
