Since when was $300 for the PS2 expensive?
I agree 100 %, Yes there is other consoles out there that make good games, however its my opinion that PS3 are more better for what i like to play. With everything the PS3 has to offer i do believe it will dominate in sales from here on out. It has a outstanding game library and many many more great titles to follow. Excited for the Playstation system and Family.

i actually happy they did what they did for the ps3. i don't want that happen what happen with PC Gaming, where intel thinks 4500HD is good enough, and PC gamers are lazy bunch t hat can only code with engines. (not coding at all). while they pushed harder, though the price raised, ps3 also have more quality than all the consoles in the market. and in the end the price went down. and would have gone done faster it wasn't for sony. 360 would still be 399$ wiii 250$ |
debatable.
Are the Wii and 360 priced less because of Sony or is the PS3 $299 (half priced) after 3 years because of Microsoft and Nintendo.............
ps3 domination always begins "next year". Why don't we just stop this? Wii has won and will keep winning and the ps3 may never even catch the 360 since the slim can't seem to outsell the 360 in the U.S

Erm, the first point is completely not true. PS1 launched for the same price and $300 is a standard for a console launch. Everyone thought the Gamecube was cheap when it launched for less. It's not too expensive.
As for the Blu-ray, I got two points:
1) When PS2 launched the DVD format was already well and truly on its way to dominate. ONLY NOW can we say the same thing for BR, and even then some will still argue that BR is still way too expensive to be completely mass-market.
2) DVD didn't have to compete with any other disk format. VHS is WAY older than DVD is, but DVD isn't that much older than BR. One could strongly argue that there is still a very big market for DVD's, while the VHS production stopped almost immediately after DVD reached a certain level of marketshare.
There's a lot of fail in this thread.

pink - ps3 it's made of higher quality more expensive chips. for the cell, Blu ray drive, HDD, XDR ram and having a overall failure rate, almost as low as the wii. actually main problem of the wii and ps3 are only lens.
yellow - both microsoft and nintendo pushed their pricecuts after PS3 sales spike.
and the ps3 still is 100$ more expensive than the main competitors.
360 cut their price twice in 2008! since ps3 hit 400$ they couldn't get ahold of anything in europe and others.
when u are the most expensive consoles it's given u are bound to have more price cuts, since the space for those are bigger, and sony being the one pushing.
u may say because there wasn't demand for it, but recent price cut make me believe there always was a demand, just it was too expensive (for a good reason).
The PS2 at 299 that was just the launch price in NA. In japan it was a little bit higher and in continental Europe it was 400-450 Dollar. Just want to add that.
to the text yes there are some similarities. Hard to develop for. I can remeber that the Developers said the PS2 was a pretty tricky console. Games ? Dont know. I had a DC and afterwards a GameCube. Price was high (here). DVD-BR yes that was similar. DVD was in the year 2000 new but it was adopted faster because there was a huge need for a cheap mass storage device.
The situation on the Gaming market was completly different. And the PS3 will never dominate the market as the PS2 did for obvious reasons. I think the PS3 will make a good second place. There is even the chance that the PS3 will be at similar numbers the PS1 was b/c its selling faster. I think the Wii expanded the market pretty much so the total numbers of all three consoles could be huge.

As for the "PS3 also have more quality than all the consoles in the market" comment: How the hell was I supposed to know you meant the material the console was made of? I thought you meant software library or failure rate!!
And the statement that Microsoft and Nintendo dropped their prices because Sony reached the $299 price point: That's why I responded with a rhetorical question. That's true, but c'mon. The PS3 is at a $299 price point because the competition was so much cheaper! The PS1 and PS2 were redesigned near the end of their console generations. Look how early we get a PS3 Slim. Which came first? The chicken or the egg?
though my inner fanboy would like this, but the PS3 has better competition than what the PS2 had last gen. however if the PS3 can sell like it has been doing lately it has a chance to atleast catch up to the 360.
2010 will be the biggest year for all three consoles IMO
