Forums - Sony - PS2 is repeating itself with PS3, domination begins in 2010

He is actually trying to say the PS2 got off to a poor start and this is similar to the PS3... it is nothing like it. The PS2 was at 46m at this popint in its life... thats 20m more.

But the PS2 and PS3 had a similar launch. The first year and a half the two were virtually identical.

From the second year of sales that things have changed.

This is the first time that PS2 has a popular price point, everything can change again.

Just like the PS2 before it, the PS3 was criticized for not having enough games to survive

Did that really happen with the PS2?

The "Shortages" argument is just laughable.

The PS2 according to many was doomed because it carried a DVD drive that at the time was unknown

Err... no it wasn't.

$299 was the launch price of Sony's PS2 and a good portion of the media was crying about it, saying PS2 was just too expensive

Again... did this really happen?

There's only one more piece that's missing to complete the puzzle, and it's to see the PS3 dominate like its predecessor.

Good luck with that one.

@kowenicki

I don't think the PS3 might be ahead of the Wii, but ahead of the 360 is possible.

The article talks about this.

PS3 finally has its moment in this generation. And should not lose it, at least until the Natal release.

As a person who was lived through the PS2's rise to power, and followed it very very closely, I must state: That article is totally inaccurate. I'm on a Wii but when I get out of bed, I'll tear that article apart.

I don't know about america, but in australia the PS2 was definitely very expensive at launch and had poor launch titles. It wasn't until about a year or so into it's life that it's price was cut and the likes of Gran turismo 3 and Grand theft auto 3 came along that people really started jumping on board.

While the PS3 will not sell more than the Wii this generation, i think it has a fair chance of catching and possibly surpassing the x360. The PS3 definitely has a stronger line up next year, i really don't think that can be disputed (games wise, lets leave natal out of this).

Pah...I don't remember much from Ps2 launch since but I think it was good success. I didin't have even internet back then tho (I think?).
Just think what would had happend if Ps3 launch price were 299€.

You are deluded.

The PS2 was always in first.  The blog comparison is broken, the analysis is idiotic and the reasoning is juvenile.

The PS2 wasnt up against two other consoles that had already sold a combined 81million... 81 million!!

Everything cant change.. its impossible... seriously just stop with this view that the PS3 can somehow run off into the sunset.

In the context of the thread that bolded part means that the PS3 launched with a deficit of 81mil compared to the other 2 consoles. What you wrote there can mean either one of two things:

1) You had a look at the current totals for X360 and Wii combined and somehow managed to not count 10million consoles since the totals of X360 and Wii add up to 91million not 81million. In this case you made TWO mistakes.

2) When the  PS3 launched the X360 and Wii were at a combined total of 81million. This is actually what you are saying, but this is just plain cRaZy talk since that would mean that they both only sold 10million since the PS3 launch (I don't have the figures so I'm using VGC to work out the numbers) In this case you made ONE mistake.

So which one will it be!?

^^^Lol!

The PS2 also had an extremely staggered launch compared to the PS3. When I get home I will post 3 graphs to show you exactly why you are wrong.
