Oh, that's so freakin' hard.

I think I'll go with Locke. He's a man of honor and conflictions, a powerful fighter (especially early on), and he manages to be even more awesome later in the game. Also, his side of the story in West Figaro was really fun (when he changes into the various disguises).

Gau is a close second for his abilities and his back story. Cyan's great too, but I didn't like his techniques too much. Oh, and Setzer wins in my department for best character design.

Oh yeah.  Cyan's gameplay kinda sucked.  I just liked his story.  As a kid i loved his techniques for some reason though.

Probably just cause the Quatra Slash looked so cool.

Oh, well I suppose if you use the Psycho Cyan glitch he's actually pretty cool gameplay wise. I thought Gau's story was also really sad, for what little we are told. And his theme was pretty great too.

I'm just waiting for someone to say Umaro.

Yeah, Gau's I liked.  His rages were fun too if only because they were vastly different.  A few were great... like the one that kept spamming Life 2.

Umaro would be a tough one... though gameplay again he's one of my favorites just because he's so different.

I could see someome saying Gogo though.

That's one of the things that's so great about FFVI though.  You could pick about any character as your favorite and it wouldn't be surprising.  I've seen someone say General Leo before.

Gau was absolutely crazy for the whole game if you knew how to use his techniques. And Umaro was just so awesome. It's probably why Final Fantasy 6 was my favorite one in the series. Every character was really customized and had their own interesting techniques, even if those techniques kind of sucked (Setzer, Relm). And Gogo was funny simply because some people thought he/she was Shadow's long lost wife, or something.

And General Leo's part of the game was too much, emotionally. I had to take a break after that.

Relm's technique was ok if you had the fake mustache.

Though her and Strago were usually the ones i had sit out the final dungeon.  Too lazy to build up all his lores.

Let's see..

Terra - She actually sucked as a character.  She spends almost the whole adventure being wheeled around my Locke.  She was the most powerful party member, but she had the personality of a jelly donut.

Celes - I wasn't too fond of her.  She wasn't very smart.  I mean, she was betrayed by Kefka, an evil laughing clown.  How do you not see that coming?  About the only redeeming thing for her is the beginning of WoR, but even then it's a case of too little too late.

Locke - He was a dashing and daring TREASURE HUNTER.  He was cut right out of the Indiana Jones mold.  As cliche as he was, I liked him.

Cyan - He had great strength of character.  He fought on after losing his family and facing the reality of their deaths more than once.  If only his actual combat abilities matched his personality.

Gau - I <3 Gau.  He was crazy fun to use in battle thanks to all his rages and his side stories in WoR were very touching.  Also, Sir Gau.

Sabin - He left Edgar's kingdom to go hang out on a mountain with another dude.  Next...

Edgar - Edgar was genuinely awesome.  Flirty, strong, intelligent... he was like Locke with more money.  Just below Gau's WoR side story was what you learn about Edgar on the airship.  The biggest moment for me was when he provided the double-sided coin for the coin-flip because that tells me he used the same coin for his coin-flip with Sabin.  Sabin didn't leave the kingdom by accident, he left because his older brother decided to shoulder the entire burden by himself.

Mog & Umaro - Not enough personality to care.

Relm & Strago - Bleh.  They didn't do or say much.

Setzer - Coolest looking character with a great personality.  He wasn't too good in battle and you got him really late but he was still fun.

Leo - Strong, kind, and betrayed in the end.  I want to be sad about he death but he was betrayed by an evil clown with a maniacal laugh.  Seriously, he was an idiot for not seeing that coming (just like Celes).

Kefka - Everyone praises him for being a great villain but I think it's more along the lines that the writers made everyone around him a moron.

Emperor Gestahl - You hired an evil clown as one of your generals.  What... the... hell.

Resistance Leader Banon - You're kind of cool because you're friends with Edgar, but really... no one cares about you.

And now, I will post a picture I made a long time ago:

Locke and Terra.

But I love all FF6's characters.

Edgar Roni Figaro
Chainsaws and a castle full o' hos.

mine is celes.

Cyan, for the reasons stated above.

Plus his theme music is awesome.

When I replay FF6 I always use the same 4 characters so that might answer your question

Edgar,Cyan,Sabin,Terra.

That's usually my favorite party as well. Although I have soft spot for Shadow and Interceptor as well.

I liked Celes and Shadow very much. And oh god I let Shadow the first time I played the game XD.
