All the above of course is entirely subject to the technology working as it should upon release. There are indeed huge doubts when any new technology is released but I would still rather be optimistic at the moment. Every persons initial reactions I've read that have actually used Natal have been extremely positive so until I get reports to the contrary I'll remain positive about it.

1. MS promise us at E3 that they can bring motion controlls to core games.
2. it's hard to be optomistic when you see what crap devs are doing for the wii.

Word of mouth sales are awful when it comes to Mimes. Therefore, Natal will tank hard with the Mime market segment.

At bolded, that sbecause sony isnt making ludicrous claims abou eplacing remotes, going on jimmy fallon displaying the product, talking up milo like molyneux.....MSFT is more vocal and wants the light on its product it gets it. As for th eabove posters saying the games and ideas people are throwing out arent realistic, i agree. People had huge ideas for the wii balance board even for FPS and all genres for jump etc. and its primarily for wii sports, ea active, snowboarding. Its going to be games like we saw at E3, mini party games that require no depth and game like we see on PSN where the user appears on screen to interact. I guess its all imo, but i really think a lot of people just dont understand what MSFT is trying to do. They arent trying to expand on the base that posts here or buys halo, they trying to tap a different market. Burnout was used as an example to silence the base as much as possible, honestly does anyone who wants natal really consider playing burnout with natal after seeig that? If you say yes, you have never played burnout, im confident in that. Its going to be brick breaker games, imo. |
I actually agree Natal isn't primarily aimed at the traditional core gamer but before this generation started there were many gamers who have ended up gaming on the Wii that had similar tastes to what many HD gamers consider core gamers. My point is that until we see concrete evidence of where they're aiming with this technology it's pointless to hate it, nothing else. I wouldn't ever play Burnout with Natal, mainly because I own a steering wheel and have a setup thats great to drive on anyway.
The remote control replacement statements are just PR, seems a lot of Sony supporters have forgotten all the smack Sony have talked over the years with no proof or delivery of final product. I will say I didn't bother reading the press release though or indeed the thread that was no doubt full of haters on this site because I'm tired of seeing people constantly hating on a product and the mods letting it slide, despite might I add that it's against forum rules.
Your post was full of opinions and your own thoughts on the technology and as such I commend your honesty in analysing it. I have no issues with people like yourself who doubt Natal can succeed, it's the moronic minority of haters that tarnish a portion of this site with their sad little agendas that I dislike.

Not in the sense of an IR pointer like the Wii, no. But the fact that it captures 3D imagery with IR bursts it can technically use that to aim with say your finger/hand or whatever. I think the obvious thing with Natal is that this will be for NEW games and experiences not even possible on Wii or PS3 with the wand. If you want to use Natal with hardcore games, you can still use the controller, or perhaps MS will go the Nintendo route and produce bunches of peripheral controllers like a gun shaped controller or sword shape or something. The audience Natal is targetting that would work best with JUST Natal is partially the Wii audience but even passed that to the millions and millions of people who don't even play the Wii because they are still intimidated and frustrated or confused with controllers. @Slowmo... I love how the whole first page was almost entirely Sony and Nintendo fans... and the majority of people here talking are all just Natal haters/doubters from the other competing consoles. |
@bolded: but what was revealed up until now is that it doesn't track up to finger level.
About the rest I agree, new games that Natall will be perfect for are possible, never denied it.

I agree with your first period, but I'm more optimistic about Natal potential, although I agree that it can't be general purpose enough to be suitable for a lot of games of already existing genres.

Point 1: I agree, it's not Natal, but MS excessive claims that draw most criticisms
Point 2: let's hope sooner or later devs other than Nintendo learn to use new controllers, including Natal, Wan, WiiMote+Nunchuck+Balance Board and also any really well thought and designed new ones...

^^ Added numbers to ease answering
1. Do you realize that this is based on one of the arguments you criticized me for? The only two differences are that I give more importance to existent games genres and ways to play them because they are a very consistent share of all Sony and MS gamers and about Nintendo, it avoided any risk of losing its own old gamers giving to Wii the ability to play old genres too, about concrete evidence, you'd be right if MS really didn't excessive claims about Natal capabilities, but it did, you downplay it to PR in point 2, but it did, now it can't avoid criticism.
2. Sony gets constantly mocked for its bad PR, particularly from the past, like the "get two jobs" sorry figure. About haters, let them talk, anyway I put this thread in Gaming forum section, not Microsoft one, just because otherwise, for forum rules, haters and trolls would have got it locked by mods.
3. Here you produce more arguments, but a lot of times you answered with nothing more than a vague optimism, that, I'll give you that, was more polite than plain hate and trolling, but it wasn't richer than them in facts. And how can "moronic haters" have an even vaguely believable agenda if they don't produce any arguments to support it? If you are calling "moronic haters" also the ones that give arguments, sorry, you are worse than them, you are free to not agree with them, to contradict them, all you want to say, but they have the same rights as you to express their opinions. And even if they insult an object (but a few true haters apart, I mostly saw jokes, not insults) their are more polite than you now, as you are insulting people. Actually you are showing to be a hater too.
