I think Nintendo is unlikely to launch a new console and a new handheld within 18 months of each other, and it seems to me that a new handheld will likely come first. Which is just another way of saying 2012 at the earliest for a new console, possibly later.

What's so wrong with releasing in 2011? From what we know about Nintendo's software lineup, it's highly probable that they have enough of a lineup to get them through 2011. I find it unlikely that they'll have another wave of software after that.

Which is why I used the present tense; I am of the opinion that Nintendo has learned a few lessons from GC's failures - like a really weak launch line up can kill a console.

Just because many of us want things in the next Ninty console that the other consoles have at the moment doesn't mean we want the console to be more like the PS/Xb! Geez. I would have thought that it would be obvious. We still want something different like the Wii is to the HD twins, but we also want the standards of those things to rise.

The reason I'm happy being a Nintendo-fan is because I know I'll be controlling Mario/Link/Samus in interesting and innovative ways for many years to come. I'm also pleased that (even if it's not at the cutting edge) the graphics and features will be impressive and compelling. Just because the people in this thread want nice graphics doesn't mean they want a PS/Xb clone.

For next wii, I do believe Nintendo will be in the graphical competition once again.

PS4 and next box will claim for both kind of players, hardcore and casual, and will have both traditional and motion sensing controls for most of the games. Nintendo expanded the market but they know that the new players they got this one will be potential costumers for all 3 consoles.

This gen we don't have a absolute console like we had in last gen, market is splitted between HD and Motion sensing, releases are splitted between both publics and Wii may even pass the 100million marks(probably) but will never have 80% of the install base like ps2 had. Next gen the splitt of the market will be even more equal.

I wanted a new Zelda OR Animal Crossing at launch.

I promised myself from now on I'll only upgrade on Nintendo consoles whenever an Animal Crossing or Zelda launches, and a new Gran Turismo OR Team Ico game launches for Sony consoles.
