Forums - Nintendo - Would developers give a Wii HD the games they denied the Wii so far?

Question: Will Wii HD mean PS360 games appear on the Wii?

Resulting Answer: The Industry guys will just say the acceptance rate for Wii HD makes it non viable for them and they will stick to PS360 as porting will take too much time.

Realistic Answer: No, the WiiHD would create a rift in the Wii Install base, simply no one will buy a Wii HD because they could already get a PS3 with motion controls and Natal by the time it's released.

Historical Answer: No GC was easier to code for and was more powerful than the Xbox and the PS2.

If 3rd party games don't sell on Wii then that means 50 million + people never bought Wii's for 3rd party games, I can't begin to see where that's a bad thing.

50 million+ people are getting what they want, just leave them alone and the rest of those people buying more Wii's. They don't need 3rd party games, they don't want them, they don't care about them. ^_^

I just wanted to know? Why do 3rd parties need to sell on Wii again?

I mean if Nintendo ends up monopolizing the Industry again then that's who's fault? These guys will just go back to PC wont they?

It's already way too late to change anything anyway, because the way this gen has evolved, as that type of games were not on Wii right from the start, the argument is now that the userbase concerned is totally focused on PS360...

Maybe it will change next gen though, as Nintendo will be considered as a "serious" console maker, this time...

But for me, the real problem wasn't to be in HD or not, it was to have a more powerful processor, and more RAM...

If the disk space of a regular DVD (5 to 10 Gigas) is enough to do a fantastic HD game on X360, then the same disk space has even more room for a fantastic game in SD... if the console can run the graphics and all the effects... and if real efforts are made, of course... :)

and an ugly drawing in 1080p will stay ugly forever..."

If a Wii HD would come out, it would start from no installbase, so there wouldn't be much sense for the third parties to port games to it until the installbase grows.
If a Wii HD would come out, it would have a successor soon with Nintendos next console, so there wouldn't be much sense for the third parties to games since they could use their investment for the next gen system.

These are also reasons for why there won't be a Wii HD.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Funny how there is a possible consumer cap when it comes to the Wii, but if it's not on the Wii, the sky's the limit.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Now guys that ain't entirely fair to 3rd parties. Yeah, the Wii's been getting shafted and yeah, the Gamecube's support wasn't fantastic (though it was still good enough in my book), but both of those had pretty legitimate reasons for going south, including the Gamecube just not being a very popular system. The Cube got plenty of ports, just not many exclusives - which is understandable! Why put exclusives on a console that topped out with 22-25 million players?

3rd party support was pretty great for the N64, on the other hand, even though the Playstation was curb-stomping it and Nintendo did everything in its power to make life Hell for third parties on that system.

I think they might, if the Wii2/WiiHD is as big as the Wii.

Oh man, you're way off. The Gamecube had far better 3rd party support. Most notably, actual support from Japanese developers.

With that said it had several exclusive Resident Evil games, Street Fighter, Mega Man, and a ton of other Capcom titles, an exclusive Final Fantasy, Sega games (most notably Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Skies of Arcadia, Phantasy Star Online), EA games, quality titles from THQ and Activision, etc. The Gamecube had an overall awesome and high quality library thanks to 3rd party support.

The N64 might have had more exclusive IPs, but they were awful. Perhaps you enjoyed the 1st party games, but 3rd party support was abysmal.

yea, maybe they will port the PS360 games to Wii HD, like they ported PS2 games to the Wii

Not a chance, here's a few reasons, first off, those who wanted the HD games would already own a 360 and PS3, so why would devs make Wii HD ports, secondly, Devs aren't big on trying to compete with Nintendo's known quality, and finally Wii HD would start with a base of Zero, much less than PS3 and 360, basically, to paraphrase N'gai croal, they'll develop for everything else before they do for Nintendo

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Hmmm... well we've seen Modern Warfare and Dead Rising come to the Wii. Perhaps developers would bring more ports if they didn't have to build them from the ground up. I imagine its easier and cheaper to port than basically recreate everything on the Wii. More importantly, if there was a Wii HD the ports would actually be equal in quality to the 360 and PS3. Except you get to swing and waggle your Wiimote around. What doesn't interest you about that?

^MW and Dead Rising ports are basically "test" games that the devs put out, PR says that they are intended to try and break into the Wii market, really its more to keep the investors happy, cause investors want to see more of the Wii riches being obtained. And the only reason the test games are made, is because Wii has a massive base, otherwise they wouldn't be made
