The moral of this thread is 'if you don't like it, don't buy it'.

The moral of this thread should be "If NO ONE LIKES IT, and NO ONE BUYS IT, why publishers still wanna do it?"

But that doesn't really apply, though. Like Tayne said, most rail shooters on Wii sold exceptionally well. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return both broke the million mark, and both got sequels. House of the Dead: Overkill is almost up to 500k by now and still selling, while Darkside Chronicles hasn't proven it's worth yet, but I'm sure it'll go well past 500k. Rail shooters, generally, do pretty well on Wii, and especially ones with good content (Umbrella Chronicles, and probably Darkside as well, though I haven't played it yet.)

One question:

Could 500k really be considered good results for Overkill? (and i mean that as a real question, not being ironic here)

One bet:

Really, i cant see Darkside Chronicles doing very well. My guess is that the light gun genre is already dead. Extraction was a sign of things to come (even if Dead Space isnt a recognizable brand as Resident Evil)

I think so, yeah. Pretty sure Sega said a while back (when it was at like 300k) that they were pleased. It's not going to stop at 500k either, but keep rising for a while.

As for Darkside Chronicles, I'll be exremely surprised if it doesn't break 800k.

SEGA seems to think so (at least they did in April).

... That's really stretching it, I think.

that's my point exactly.... you can take any game and sumarize it as he did to make it look stupid. But as others pointed out, there si replay value in the game and it doesn't account for the most important factor... FUN! (he finds it booring, I find it fun hehe!)

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

I love playing on-rails shooters with my buddy. Resident Evil UC is the best one yet but I haven´t gotten DC yet.

People do want rail shooters. They just want them budget priced or attached to a major IP. HOD:OK had a bad start and look where it is now. Heck I wouldnt be surprised to see DS:E hit 250k lifetime which isn't bad at all for a spin-off.

Also in UC you can skip all but the in-game scenes which are generally quite short. On my second playthrough I have not been annoyed at all. DS:E on the other hand is a little slower paced, but then again they arn't just retelling a story we all know already either so it makes sence.

You must hate Metal Gear games so damn much.

In the end this topic just comes down to "I don't like something, therefore it sucks, and anybody who does like it (reviewers, consumers) are just silly inferiors." That is pretty much the definition of fail. Taste is taste, play Cursed Mountain or one of the other quality non-rail shooting Wii games.

You can do such picture for almost every game. For example: The Solo-Modus of Modern Warfare 2 has exactly the same Rail-Shooter-Feeling. You can't do anything aside from the main storyline, but Dead Space or Darkside Chronicles are more fun than MW2.

It's another example how much time some people wasting to discredit Wii games. Are they hating the Wii so much or are they getting monay for this?

Well, speak for yourself
I dont hate the wii, its my console of choice. But you gotta admit that publishers are making fun of it.
They shove it with horrible games and then complain that these games dont sell.
And worse, legions of Fanboys (almost twenty of em) take every horrible game that this publishers make like is the second coming of Jesus Christ, just to support the Wii.
No, people. The wii has bad games. A LOT of em. In fact, the vast marjority of the wii games are awful or lazy attempts to cash in on the system. The few good ones cant make up for the wastland of shame that is the Wii library.
The DS has a lot of horrible games. Everybody wants a piece of the market, and release anything on the system. However, the huge amount of great games on the DS just make the awful ones little in comparsion. The good DS games are so creative and fun... and you simple cant find this kind of creativity on the wii 3rd parties games.

Yes the Wii does have bad games, but these are not them. Just because you don't like them hardly makes them horrible. That is a very self-important stance to take. Or maybe the whole world is just conspiring against you to overrate and overhype "horrible" games. Either it's you, or everybody else. Must be us right?

Simple, functional problems that could be easily resolved. They just need to realize that these games are fundamentally enjoyed for their arcadeness, and that concessions need to be made towards that point. You don't have to sacrifice the cinematic nature, but make a fast-paced runthrough mode as an aside.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
