Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Anyone got the Zune HD, yet?

I love my ZuneHD. I thought about getting a phone that could do everything, but I have a hard enough time getting my phone charged without listening to hours of music a day. The UI is amazing. There is some sort of Zen like quality to how you swipe and fling the menus. It is actually fun to navigate menus and stuff. Screen looks brilliant, doesn't show up well in direct sunlight, but good enough for me to do what I need. Sound quality is excellent, might want to pick up some better buds when you can though. The ones that come with are decent, but nothing special.

The real kicker for this thing, to me, is the Zune Pass. Unlimited music, and you can get music straight from the Zune if you have a wireless network. I can sit for hours and browse artists bios and see related artists. You can stream the music and then download it straight to the player if you like it. With the Zune Pass you pay $15.00 a month for unlimited music downloads. If your subscription runs out, you lose the rights to the songs. But, they give you 10 song credits a month to get full rights to 10 songs. So if you spend $10 a month on music, this is a steal.

There are not many apps for it as of right now and I don't particularly care for any of the games except Sudoku and AudioSurf. The internet browser is decent. I don't use the radio much because I have a Zune Pass. All in all, I am extremely happy with my purchase. Use it everyday and have not had any problems.

nice ive been thinking on getting a Zune HD , ill wait and see what more people think about it

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

Let me chime in. I dont post a lot, but lurk alot hah.

I bought the zune hd 32 through dell. I love it! I havent had any problems with it at all. Its weak on the Apps front, so if that is your main interest, you should go with the touch. there is no telling how much support there will be for the zune apps and the zune team has been quiet barring a few updates 3-4 months.

I dont think it is selling that well, despite great reviews from the tech world. no marketing from MS makes you wonder how serious they are about the device. I hear that this xmas, they will push it more by ads. We know they will push the software side. Last figure I heard is that they are around 5%. maybe less. On Amazon, it scored a 4.5 stars and reviews steadily climbed in numbers, so there are people out there buying it...just not the masses.

I have my ZHD with me all the time, I recently bought the incipio leather case from Best Buy and works great. It still fits in my pocket with the flip case on, so that tells you how small the device is. I use the radio alot and it works great, except when you are barricaded in a building. I discovered HD channels I never knew existed! I am also able to use the zune with my current set up in my car, the soundgate core, which allows my acura tsx to operate the zune through my car radio and steering wheel controls. Of course, the touch screen makes it easier to navigate than pushing buttons on my radio and wheel...but volume control is where its at!

During down times, like when I wait on an oil change or at the airport, I watch videos and podcasts and the screen, battery life, sound, is superb. the current games are pretty fun, but Im not much for mobile gaming...at most, I might spend 20 minutes on each game. I do like Chess and poker though. I do get a lot of interest from strangers when they see it, but they never seem to know what it is (what kind of ipod is that! ahah)....MS is not pushing it.

The internet works well for me, though it is dependent on the wifi signal.

right now, you can get a good deal for the 32 and 16. I think if you go to Dealnews.com, they offer the 32 for 250-260 incl shipping and the 16 for 198.

I highly recommend this device for media purposes. It just does it better than itunes/touch (minus apps). there is a huge potential for apps though, with the tegra chip...which im sure most know about already. But you may not want to count on potential but rather what is actually available.

The last thing I would mention is that there is not much in terms of accessories. They are starting to come out slowly though.

Hope that helps!

i wanted to change my mp3 player for some time - my current Zen player has almost 4 year so i've been thinking about picking up some portable media player. at first i was thinking about Zune HD, but 16gb version is more expensive than latest version of iPod Touch 32gb. not to mention it's not officially available in my country.
Zune Pass thing is interesting, but there's Last.fm app on the iphone. 36$ a year is kinda better deal than 180$ to me.

i may go to the dark side and buy Touch, but iRiver P7 and Cowon iAudio D2 are much cheaper and support more audio formats i'm interested in. both are for about half an iPod Touch price but they have only 8 and 16gb HDD, it's a tough choice:/

I got a question. If you use Zune Pass, can you use the downloaded songs on more than just your PC and Zune? I may not get a Zune now as I am getting the Verizon Droid phone and I was wondering if I could still use the Zune Pass to get unlimited songs and then have them on my Droid phone?

My current iPod Touch is 8GB so I think 16GB or 32GB would probably be perfect for me.

Love my Zune HD!  If people are looking for a ton of apps it's not for you.  If you are looking for a GREAT mp3/video player... go for it.  The apps that are out are GREAT.  I'm loving Project Gotham!

I was thinking about getting one, but the lack of Apps and flash support just ruin the purchase for me, not to mention everything the Zune does the Ipod does better.

But the Zune looks hella cooler. I just wish it had Flash support.

I was considering it, until I realize that I live in Canada and probably won't get the "HD radio", which makes Zune HD, more like "Zune"

frankly, i said no thanks and decided to stick with my ipod 16gb

So, I've had it for a couple of hours, now, and I'm very impressed.

UI is sleek, love it.
Apps, whilst lacking, do add some fun (I LOVE Audiosurf)
The screen is nice. Really nice.
It's good to see that this is "good" touch screen - as in, sensitive and accurate (not like cheap touch screen phones that need to be pushed quite hard, or are inaccurate).

That's about all I have to say, at the moment. Also, setup was painless (though updates were required in true Microsoft fashion). The headphones seem kind of cheap, though.

All-in-all very impressed with this little device.

This shit is nice, my hair was... blonde before this shit.
