the best star Wars game is Jedi Outcast, also Jedi Knight 1. |
The best Star Wars game is KOTOR. Easily. And I've played just about every SW game.

The more I learn about this game the more it seems that Bioware is not part of the direction team and more the coders. Seriously on one of the developers mentioned that "When you think Smuggler you think Han-Solo", "When you think Bounty Hunter you think Boba Fett". Dude WTF was the guy thinking. The entire reason why KotoR was so f'ing awesome because it gave us a SW universe that was different. The more I see ToR the more it feels like a copy and paste job of episodes 3-6 put shortly after the KotoR games. Not all Bounty Hunters have jet packs, flame throwers and wrist missel launchers. Fetts popularity is soley fan iconization. Solo was a liar about being the fastest ship. Who ever hears a sales men calling themselves the second or third best. And the game going to install at 40+gb, good lord. Will this game sell. If Bioware makes a bad game I will be surprised. Will I buy this game. yes. Will I invest numerous months of money into this game. Probably. but good lord I can't help to think that the ToR design team is their second rate and listing too much to Lucas Arts. |
Actually, Han was the best and fastest(Jabba himself said so, also, there's tons of EU evidence). Also, I have to ask you this: who wants to be just another bounty hunter, smuggler, Jedi, etc.? From the start in WoW, you're called a "hero," and you do tasks that only a hero would do. Why is it suddenly unreasonable to have the ability to be a hero in the Star Wars universe?
Bioware is the direction team. LucasArts would be crazy to not have them be the direction team. Also, LA is just plain fucking lazy. Also, the universe is still very different. The Sith own half the galaxy, recently destroyed the Jedi Temple, and they actually signed a treaty(which is the only thing I'm not fond of).

Maybe if you had was a console it would be. In PC land that's just another RPG, and a dumbed down one at that.

I think what you meant to say is if 'all' you had was a console. But despite your downplaying of KOTOR, the whole game isn't a 'dumbed down' RPG. Its still fun and a good Star Wars game. However, Its more like an RPG which tried to do new things and focus on high production values (aka LOTS of cutscenes and talking), but suffered in other areas because of this focus. Not that it matters to its sales or review scores, because, accoridng to reviewers and the general public, the best games ever are the games with good graphics and tons of dialogue/cutscenes.
But like anything, there's better games out there. Including on consoles, despite your comment.
But hitting on the whole excess dialogue and focusing on certain aspects thing, I hope they fix some of that in Old Republic. They have stated they are putting even more emphasis on 'every NPC having a unique voice and unique dialogue'. As much as I applaud their effort in the making of KOTOR, the emphasis on dialogue and cutscenes made that game kind of drag on (especially the constant debates and consoling your teammates which could only be described as a crew of depressed bipolar freaks). I really hope we aren't going to have 20 minute dialogue sequences and 'turmoil' in Old Republic. Heck, I just hope they speed up the dialogue process.

I also hope they have more mechanics going on in OR than in KOTOR. NWN had 9 very unqiue clases, 150 spells, and i think like 80 different feats. Kotor had 3 classes and a dozen feats and spells. The fact that 4 of the clsses in OR are basically just "jedi" only makes me worried about how much they will dumb it down, if they do, like the core mechanics in KOTOR. I too hope for less talking and more exposition by showing and not telling. They need to go to the Valve school of story telling imo.

Out of all the Star Wars games, KOTOR easily had the best story. Of course, KOTOR2 would havea better story if it were complete, but alas, it is not. I loved the Jedi Knight/Dark Forces games, especially Jedi Outcast's online, but KOTOR is in another class. The mods in particular are some of the best, considering the limited tools at the disposal of the modders. The fact that it racked up, what, 40 GOTY awards is a testament to its greatness.

It had a good story but as far as gameplay goes it was dumbed down, at least compared ot other PC RPGs, so no it wasn't the top Star wars at all. Jedi Outcast had phenomenal gameplay and it was at the top of FPS/Saber combat (?). So Kotor sure had a story, but if you want a story go read a book, because games also have gameplay, and kotor's was very simplified and dumbed down.

And? I had as much fun with KOTOR's combat system as I do with, say, Baldur's Gate's. Although that may be the fanboy in me talking...

I find that very doubtful considering KOTOR's was lsimilar but dumbed down 3 times, it was the exact same as NWN but dumbed down like 10 times.
