Kane & Lynch 2 to feature Online Co-op

It was last week that brought news that IO Interactive is set to release Kane & Lynch 2™: Dog Days next year, and today we have learnt further

details as to what is in-store for the upcoming title. Whilst the original Kane & Lynch title wasn’t necessarily a bad game,

many felt that it was continually held back from its full potential by the implementation of incredibly disappointing AI and action sequences

that never really captured the essence of what IO were trying to achieve, never mind failing to blow you away.

“I think the first game tried to do too many things and it didn’t achieve them all,” states Karsten Lund, Game Director for the title.

“For us it’s a very good idea to make a sequel. It was one of the biggest selling original games of the year, 1.85 million sold.

And of course we love these characters because we think they’re really interesting.”

These issues are set to be countered within the games sequel in which Kane and Lynch make a welcome return as they encounter

more failings within the gritty Shanghai Underworld.

“The story starts when Lynch has accepted this deal to ship guns to Africa from China.

That’s where he gets the idea of calling in Kane for help” explains Lund, although “They need to do one small errand, and it goes wrong.

” As we can imagine from the titles two failed criminals, it probably ends up going terribly wrong – so much so that every gang,

crook and Police officer wants the duo dead – yet we’ll have to wait to find out exactly what happens.

An element that was sorely missed within the original title was the fact that Online Co-op didn’t make it into the game before it was released,

and it’s pleasing to learn that IO Interactive have confirmed that Kane & Lynch 2 is set to feature both Online and Offline Co-op modes,

alongside the ‘Fragile Alliance’ multiplayer mode that allows you to live out your bank robbing dreams.

It is set for release across PC, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010.

It would be stupid not to feature online co-op, I have an article about it sitting on the floor in OPM UK, I just haven't got around to reading it yet

@Munkeh111

This was actually taken from OPM UK

Haha! Probably should have read it in more depth, they seem to be quite excited about it from my skim reading. I am the middle of a history essay, so I haven't given it my full attention

I found the next part i will post it too

Kane & Lynch 2 to feature new ‘Down Not Dead’ mechanic

On top of news that Kane & Lynch is set to implement Online Co-op, the AI has also received an overhaul with Karsten Lund, Game Director for the title, describing that “The enemies are a lot more co-ordinated in the way they are trying to out-smart you. They do a lot more violent movement and flank you.”

Such aggressive tactics will be entirely welcome after experiences within the first title, yet Kane & Lynch 2 is also set to adopt a new ‘Down Not Dead’ mechanic. This will mean that if you take a fatal hit, instead of being immediately greeted by the ‘Game Over’ screen you will fall to the ground and be able to claw your way across the floor with one hand, whilst still being able to fire back at enemies with the other. You will have a period in which you can recover from your wound, but take another shot and death will be upon you – meaning that this new mechanic neccessitates crawling for cover rather than desperation killing!

Mads Prahm, Producer for the game, explains “What we’re trying to do is make it as intensive as possible. It’s dangerous to get shot and there needs to be a punishment for that. The Down Not Dead system gives you a second chance, but keeps the intensity high without forcing you to replay.”

It certainly sounds like a welcome addition, but what do you think?

The game had a really good concept and a good story.  It was just a bit rough around the edges.  It definitely wasn't a classic but I've wasted my time on worse games.  I'll be looking forward to the sequel.
