Great start for Assassin's Creed 2, NSMB Wii, and Left 4 Dead 2. I don't think anyone expected them not to though. And according to the MVC article, Wii is continuing to have sales explode in that of UK with a lot of it due to the limited edition black Wii.

Now I see a lot of SILLY posts so let me correct something. All Wii games don't have legs. ACTUALLY, the majority of games don't have legs. It's never the case for really anything. But big mainstream products are generally able to sell over long periods of time. Take Halo 3 for instance. This is a huge mainstream property, especially in that of America. Thus it has been able to sell continuously over long periods of time... it will have a good holiday season as well to continue that. Super Smash Bros Brawl is another great example of this which is following similar trends.

People use legs as a way to justify when a game levels off. If your game is selling 10k a week that is not legs. That is nowhere near it. Games that sell well over time are ones that continue to sell well after the holiday season (NSMB DS, Mario Kart, Halo 3) and get HUGE boosts during that of the holiday season. Most of you can't name that many titles when you see those qualifications and that is the point. This is legs... a game that continues to sell like it was just released and that is what those kinds of titles do. That is why Halo is over 10 million, and Mario Kart and NSMB DS are coming in on 20 million. They have huge mainstream appeal.

For the case of NSMB Wii and Modern Warfare 2, it is no doubt that both are huge mainstream properties. I don't think too many will argue what is a bigger mainstream property, but both are going to sell well over a good 2 years to come... just like past games in both franchises have done. Which will end up selling more? Well considering MW2 is on multiple platforms it's a little unfair to discuss but still both will have great sales this holiday season tied in with their huge openers along with continued sales for the next couple of years.

agreed!

If i go by what you said just because Darth agreed with since he couldnt stand up to his own argument, no one ps3 games have ever had legs then.

haha, bitter aren't we

I'm still waiting for a list Ps Rock....give it to me

And besides COD4, no PS3 game has really had legs.....uncharted 1 might squeek through

Uncharted doesnt count, it wasnt big enough and spent too many weeks at 10k.

Someone already gave you a list Darth, thats why i never bothered posting.

I know the list your talking about & there is a reason for which I ignored it

However once again, apart from Deca Sports those games do not have "incredible" legs at all

De blob:

http://www.vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=De+Blob+-+Wii&reg2=All&game2=&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=100&weekly=1

Puh-lease.....they are not legs.....thats just where the sales have reached a level where they stay constant....oh & its a "low" constant

Legs = a HIGH sustained level of sales.....as zucas has pointed out

Check smeags' post on the last page.....the games in his post have legs, & no PS3 game was listed.....yes maybe this does mean PS3 games don't have legs, or maybe thats because GT5 isn't out.... its a mainstream franchise & one which is not front loaded

But COD4 did have legs

http://www.vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Call+of+Duty+4%3A+Modern+Warfare+-+PS3&reg2=All&game2=&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=100&weekly=1

So this time give me a list with more deca sports in it.....not de blobs, boom blox's & so on

Trust me, you won't find many games at all

This mentality that "Wii games have legs"....it doesn't matter if week 1 sales are low it has "teh legs" has been proven wrong in MAdWorlds & Conduits case already this year

The mentality has come from the evergreen nintendo titles that are in the top 10 since years......but most of all the "rule" is exclusive to them

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

I am simply going by Zucas' definition, thus no games on the PS3 has ever had legs while plenty have on the Wii.

but my definition is referent, legs is consistency through a long period of time once the game level off.
For some big game it's 50k to 100k
for medium games 20k to 50k
and the small games 10k or above.

if any game can spend a year at those levels, thats leg to me.

Lots of Wii games become million sellers over a long period of time. I consider that to be legs. Even if the concensus of people don't believe Wii titles have legs (which i don't buy.) the legs of most Wii titles are still far longer on the whole than the other home consoles.

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

Call of Duty 4 did have legs

http://www.vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Call+of+Duty+4%3A+Modern+Warfare+-+PS3&reg2=All&game2=&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=100&weekly=1

& "plenty" of wii games, out of which most as the "Wii series" had legs too

I see a pattern in terms of the wii legs

Now would you say GTA4 had legs?

http://www.vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Grand+Theft+Auto+IV+-+PS3&reg2=All&game2=&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=100&weekly=1

I think by your definition it did have legs......by zucas's definition, probably not

With PS360 multiplat games, its best if we actually combine their sales & then see how the legs are

so yeah atleast 1 PS3 game has had legs....more wii games have had legs than PS3 games

but in general we cannot say that Wii games have "Legs"

You want a PS3 game with big legs? you will get one MArch 2010

360 & Wii have both had their mainstream exclusive franchises released....thats why it may seem they have more games that had significant legs

How can uncharted 2 not showing legs when its last week sales actually went up?

Darth I never said all Wii games have legs, there have been plenty of bombs, but the amount is so much more than the other consoles, i can actually say wii games have legs.

And what the hell is going on, i have been on wii's side this whole week, I need to visit Gilgermesh thread for ps3 cleansing.

The term "legs" has been around well before video games. It was mostly tied to movies grosses. If a film made a lot of money compared to its opening weekend take, it would be deemed to have legs. For instance, Titanic opened to around $28.6 million but ended up making $600 million domestically. Those are huge legs. Not only because it continued to make money for a very long period of time, but also because it made a great deal of cash compared to opening weekend. Over 21 times the opening weekend take.

Changing the term to fit your own private definition is really silly. De Blob most certainly has legs. It started off very slowly, but gained momentum. Putting some disclaimer that the game needs to sell a certain amount per week goes against the idea of "legs". It's not how many games sell every week, but if it stays at a constant pace that determines legs. The biggest indicator of that is the comparison of opening week to overall sales.

With your new changed definition, only blockbuster games can achieve legs.

How can you be disappointed with NSMBW? What did you expect? I'm actually surprised it reached 400k in EU/O.

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

Wow Uncharted 2 really has no legs at all. Forza 3 is dominating it in that area. Looks like another PS3 title with no longevity that doesn't really last despite endless forum viral marketing.

Anyways, PS3 Slim really only made the PS3 competitive for a week or two in the UK looks like. Now it has slipped right back down to being dominated again and maybe worse than before soon. 360 hardware is selling great, you can tell by Pure and Lego Batman.
