I get frustrated at the amount of posts that ARE merely "item x sucks" than people get away with....

Are you reporting everyone that does so?

Why bother, I did for 6 months or so and nothing ever gets done.  Your mods are biased, a blind man can see that.

Towards...?

Get a few mods to actually bother reading the Microsoft forums at the moment sometime.  Every single thread is constantly trolled to the point there is no point actually posting anymore.  When a thread is started the first thing that happens is it gets run off topic by the same individuals constantly who do nothing but flame Microsoft and their products.  These individuals often post one sentence answers then leave the thread for a day or two happy they've caused chaos, you report them and nothing ever gets done.

Thats pretty much what I mean by biased.  Try reading the Sony and Nintendo forums and then compare that to the deal we get in the Microsoft forum.  I'm sure mods don't intend to be biased intentionally but this is the impression I've got over the last 6 months, 18 months prior to that, the moderation seemed fair to me.

lol Makingmusic just banned/warned two people in a Microsoft thread

Taking action now after you've lost a huge number of posters fed up of inaction previously doesn't undo anything I've stated.  Perhaps my opinion of reasonable posting behaviour differs to the mods and indeed the rules on here but the Microsoft forum has been run into the ground.  If by expressing my opinion on this means we get at least some small resemblance of balanced disussion for a while in there then great.

If you check the time stamp, I posted in that thread before you even said a word.  The bannings were doled out even earlier.  >_o

I didn't claim you banned one user because I whinged.  The general statement at the end is just that, it wasn't directed to your actions.  I've found in my experience on forums when you specifically pin point a mod you only make their job harder.  Those comments though that got acted upon lasted two hours without action, that alone speaks volumes to me.  Either the mods aren't reading the Microsoft forums regularly perhaps combined with a community who just don't report anymore because it's ineffective.  As I said though, if there is new mods in place and clearer rules to follow then my comments are already outdated and I should wait a while before judging any further.

things can take 2 hours because we have lives, or it took that long for people to report it. You can't expect instantaneous moderations.

And of course I don't read the Microsoft forums, I have no reason to, but I shouldn't have to read the entire website to be able to moderate it. That's what reports are for. There's no way we could have enough moderators or pay them enough to read the entire website.

I expect some moderation, that was the point of my initial complaint, the Microsoft forum had been shown very little attention by the moderation team for a while now.  There is a reason its activity is decreasing, people are leaving the site fed up with the crap going on in there.  I don't expect anything other than the treatment shown elsewhere in the forum is reflected the same on the Microsoft boards.

If you don't want to read the Microsoft board thats fine but it sometimes feels like no moderator is at the moment.  People shouldn't have to report constantly, they're another tool for moderators, not the main weapon.

2 hours is a long time, that can be 10 pages on this site in some topics, I appreciate we all have lives to lead but had those comments been made in topics more frequented by the mods the action would have been instantaneous with or without a report.

The report system is anything but ineffective. Of this I can assure you. It might be slow, and it might seem like nothing is done short term, but it pans out. First offenses are just warnings which will seem as nothing. Second offenses are bans so short that it can very easily be missed. Complaining about lag time is just sad to me though.

Example from my own personal history. Any mod from before the time where we could hide sigs will recognize my name. They will also cringe at the mere mention of a sig being too long I suspect. I flooded them with at least a dozen reports a day. At first it was slow going. Then as repeat offenders, or those that would not change it continued to violate the rule they would get banned. Before long sigs were of a much much more mangeable size, and I was the only one fighting the good fight there. I assume it has slipped back into chaos without my watchful and persistent eye, but they are no longer a problem for me so it is all the same.

If you want to end the trolling, then report it regularly and consistently. Also accept that sometimes the mods might disagree on what constitutes a rule violation. Some of the offense you might simply be out of synch with the current mod team on. If that is a problem then you can talk to Naz and I am certain he will explain the position better to whichever side he feels is in the right.

At this point though, I think this thread might have come to its logical conclusion. I do not want to create a thread where moderators are being attacked. That is simply unacceptable in my eyes. The people dedicate a lot of their time and energy into this for better or for worse. I have had mods I absolutely loathed, but out of respect for the service they were providing I kept it mostly to private conversations as it should be. There can be no hope for rational, or civil discussion of moderator actions which are, by design, meant to be secretive in a public space.

So to any mods or admins reading this I say my issue is entirely resolved. If you believe this thread has any hope of bearing more fruit then I welcome you to keep it open as long as possible. I am all for locking it before it devolves any further though. The issue at hand has been resolved to the satisfaction of everyone I believe. This will only get nastier from here on out.

Fair point.

Yeah, thread has been resolved, so locking.
