Thats an interesting question, I guess the game servers are provided my the publishers which are mostly just for matchmaking anyway. Most of the bigger downloads like games and videos are paid for so will be making money.

| iBlah said: Sony charges the publishers, I think its $0.1 per gig downloaded?? I'm more concerned about what happens when PSN userbase grows so big that publishers can no longer afford to publish on PSN, especially free stuff like demos. |
It's 0.16$ per gig. This doesn't apply to PSPminis.

I agree with some of the stuff you said, but that has little to do with what we were discussing.

You were discussing the profitability of the PS3 console, I explained how this does not matter :)
Whatever it costs them will be made up for by people buying the console for having free online.
Well once the MMO's get close to releasing next year. Sony will launch a special sector of the PSN for subscription based games like The Agency, DC Universe Online and Final Fantasy XIV Online.
That will bring in even more. Plus if Sony Online Entertainment ever gets around to doing a PS3 Everquest game, then the PSN will really start making money.

That's not what I was discussing. We were discussing the Live price vs the 360/PS3 price difference. No one said anything about profitability of the PS3, it's about profitability of the PSN.

Umm, no? Unless you are comparing the arcade to the PS3, in which case your argument is pretty mute as you can't play any games...without purchasing external peripherals...

"Maybe from the gamer perspective, but not from Sony's as the PS3 is surely more expensive to build than the 360."
I beg to differ :)
yes there has been lots of recent articles showing even if you buy an xbox 360 and upgrade it to have all the features of the ps3 (bar blu-ray player) it actually costs more than a PS3!!
it's the future of handheld
