MW2 smashes Call of Duty 4

We know that Modern Warfare 2 is selling like the proverbial hotcakes, so it's perhaps not too surprising to learn that the PC version has bettered the first week sales for predecessor Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

According to developer Infinity Ward's website, "the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 has actually outsold the PC version of Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in its first week, making it the most successful version."

Well we're not entirely sure it can be deemed 'the most successful version' just yet, after all, it's eventual sales may yet not be bigger than the earlier game. Someone's obviously after an easy headline.

And we must admit, the wording of that quote did have us initially thinking that the game's first week sales had already surpassed Call of Duty 4's in its entire lifetime, which in hindsight, would be bonkers. Wouldn't it...?

I'm pretty sure everyone is mixing numbers, I think Ve3d is talking about lifetime sales (probably retail as well), but we don't really know Steam sales, so all we can do is guess - and I believe he's talking first week alone, which is not really surprising then (it's like L4D2 outselling L4D at launch, it's obvious it would happen!)

& it makes me think, maybe shio wasn't crazy when he said "maybe" COD4 on Pc did better than we all thought (10 million is still BS though)

Of course, the only ones who didn't buy it are mad because they didn't get it their way.

OT: Why don't we get steam's or D2D's numbers? Don't they have shareholders that care about that information? That really bugs me. Anyway, good job MW2!

Smashes?! The fact that the PC version of MW2 did not increase anywhere near what consoles did tells me that it is already suffering. Also, I always said that MW2 will get more and more damage as time continues, because the lack of communities and mods will harm it, and sales will diminish much faster than COD4's.

Plus the added incentive that MW2 is not being sold in D2D, or Impulse, or Gamersgate, or anywhere else but Steam will damage the online sales of MW2. As I recall, COD4 dominated on D2D for several months.

Plus the newly released Left 4 Dead 2 will help destroy MW2's sales, and already made MW2 lose the top spot on Steam.

Because L4D2 "destroys" its sales, means it will be the better game?

I know people with the PC version of MW2, they said it's not that bad. People are blowing it out of proportion, like that stupid petition.

I also 2 know people that bought the game on PC, and both said they're disappointed by MW2.

Infinity Ward crapped over all the modders, pro-gamers, competitive gamers, and PC gamers who want a better experience. What's the point in replacing the great dedicated servers with the much inferior console matchmaking?
