Forums - General - My PhD has got the green light :-)

My PhD has got the green light. I am extremely happy, the happiest I've been in ages. For the next few years I will be annoying you all with my research, even if you didn't ask to hear about it.

My project is to do with Human-computer interaction. I will be looking at exploring new ways for people to interact with virtual objects in a virtual environment. That's the short version anyway, I'm sure the long version will really bore you.

Anyway, I'm very happy... Oh yeah and you all have to call me Dr Highwaystar101 soon lol j/k.

I'm at Birmingham City University. I'm at the technology and engineering campus (TEE, formerly TIC) which is a good campus, miles ahead of the rest of the University lol. It is 1 of 17 centres of excellence for interactive technology and 1 of 5 centres of research excellence across the University. It's got fantastic facilities and is going through a £150m "regeneration", so the good facilties will become even better soon. It's close to my parents home too, which is always an added bonus. So I'm happy about where I will be working, very happy.

I'm researching human interaction with virtual objects. My eventual goal is to produce a system where a person can control and interact with objects a virtual environment. I will look to make a visual recognition system of some variety (I have a lot of good ideas of how to do that), that will be able to capture the persons details and physique and track their points of interaction so that they can interact within a 3D virtual environment. Imagine a CGI cartoon but with a real person walking around and interacting with the objects in the scene, live. I think the project is very interesting, I can wait to get it started...

Also, if you want to see my profile please feel free to add me.

It's on private because someone stole my pictures off my profile, but I don't mind my friends looking at my profile.

Do you like math?

Maths (the "s" is important lol).

I wish, I'm good at Maths, but I'm not great. If I enjoyed Maths I would be doing a more "pure science" like Physics or... er... Maths lol.

Sorry... LOL, I'm not even sure why I asked that question. When I think PhD, I often think differential equations.

So, something like Natal?

Wow, congratulations. Fingers crossed on you discovering something so groundbreaking you change the way we all live =o

What career are you going for out of interest?
