Haha N64 RPGs, makes me think of Quest 64. I actually really liked that game -.-

I think JRPGs need to evolve. At least if they want to be commercially successful. Evolve into what? I'm not sure, but have there really been any innovations lately? At least some WRPG developers (bethesda and bioware come to mind quickest) are trying to do new things.

ummmm

valkyria chronicles and demon's souls are some that come to mind

Demon's Souls seems more like a (loving) throwback imo.  Outside the online component, it's pretty much just a dungeon crawler.

Valkyria's pretty interesting though, and definitely unlike almost everything before it.

JRPGs haven't lost ground in Japan. It's just that the only ones that have been released in HD (I'm assuming he's referring to HD, because the ones on DS are doing splendid, and DQIX is doing fantastic) are on the 360, and what's the install base there? Only a million?

Doesn't matter though. As long as all those companies have their wallets lined with M$ money, it doesn't matter if their games haven't sold so hot on the console they decide to put it on

^ those times are ending. many of the RPG's releasing next year will either be multiplat or PS3 exclusive =)

Thats absolutely ridiculous, if you think developers dont care about there games not meeting expectations or getting some type of fanbase your out of your mind

Final Fantasy XIII and Resonance of Fate definately will revive JRPG genre. Dev must learn lesson that they should never release JRPG only for X360. It shoud be multiplat. I dont think SOIV, IU, LO ,BDwas flop. Those are best selling X360 game in Japan which only has 1.2 million userbase. I expect 9 million for FFXIII and 2.5 million for ROF.

@jarrod
Ryu Ga Gotoku 3 isn't an RPG.

It's all about the action rpgs, I love em.
