Forums - Nintendo - If Nintendo made Wii HD....

Do you think if Nintendo made Wii at least 720p Wii would be in a better situation than it is now. Maybe 1080p could be too much but at least 720p would of been good enough because most games don't use 1080p. So if Wii was HD from the start it would of been the lead console for most of the games like Modern Warfare, Assassin's Creed, etc. It would of been the PS2 all over again.

I think they would go full 1080P, by the time they release it (2013) it wouldent cost too much to make and 720P would look like a poor decision

It will be terrible, and yes you're gonna see it next year. I'm pretty sure.

Expect Sony 2006 deluxe. Don't ask me to explain it, just keep it in mind.

It's so hard to know.

Any increase in power would have to be accompanied with an increase in cost, so how many HD Wiis would people have bought at $300? $350?

Would an HD Wii really have attracted more development if it had a lower adoption rate due to increased price? Would the increased dev costs of HD have driven away some of the lower-tier developers or led to more exclusives becoming ports?

The Wii was sold out for about 2.5 years with no price cuts. It's hard to imagine how the console could have been more successful.

It wouldn't have made sense for Nintendo to have made Wii HD out of the gate. Nintendo is all about affordable hardware and while some of their consoles have pushed the graphics bar (N64/GameCube) Nintendo has always made profitability its first priority. So with the new Wii technology if Nintendo also made it HD they would loose boat loads of reveniew. Nintendo was trying to create a new market not compete with Microsoft and Sony in there market. Yes I know I just made a thread about non-competition being bull but Nintendo wanted to create a niche market using Blue Ocean rather then competing with Microsoft and Sony for the existing market.

Would Wii HD have sold, if Nintendo had maintained the 279.99$ price tag they would have lost reveniew like Sony and Microsoft did. But if Nintendo raised the hardware price to the levels of MS and Sony would the casual non-gamer market have bought Wii's? If Wii was HD would so many people have adopted the Wii?

I think Wii HD is the next generation, we'll see it in 2011 when the hardware is cheaper and cost effective for Nintendo to make the jump.

HD is not going to be the focus of their next console.

Nintendo stated at E3 2006 that the Wiimote was going to become the new NES controller. Its the way of the future . So if the Wiimote is to be the new standard then the next Wii's controller will probubly be a Wiimote with WM+. So if the controller is going to remain, and the next Nintendo console isn't HD or graphics are not the focus what exactly do you think the focus will be?

How does the controller remaining mean it won't be the focus? That likely means it could be about making the controls as great as possible, with just some better specs now that Nintendo can affored them.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

If the controller remains pretty much identicle just with some features like MotionPlus built in. Sure it'll be a focus but can it really be the focus. Think about it a second, if the next console is the exact same visuals as the existing Wii but the controller just has WM+ built in and maybe a few other perks will it sell? will the media support it?

Of course graphics are going to be the focus, unless Nintendo chooses to create a whole new controller scheme. Which in my opinion would be really stupid considering we all just got used to the Wiimote. Sure the next Nintendo console may not beat the competition's visuals (PS4/NextBox) but then again now that Sony has the wand Nintendo may see them as direct competition making visuals far more important next generation

this generation the focus was on the controller because it was new and ground breaking, but if the next Nintendo console keeps the existing control scheme's then it won't likely be the focus. I think Microsoft and Sony's controllers will be their focus and Nintendo's focus will be on next generation visuals!

^Wrong, as Reggie already pointed out, HD won't be the reason to move to the next gen.

Nintendo will release a successor console when they have exhausted possibilities on the Wii, that means more than just HD, because HD isn't important to their games, so it'll be something like the vitality sensor, or something that we haven't even imagined, yet, that will be the reason for the next console, it'll have HD, but is won't be the reason for the new system
