Forums - Gaming - Educational Video Games

I read recently on a forum somewhere (most likely here) that there were a few games coming out for the DS that  focused on teaching people Spanish and French. This got me to thinking... what other titles could be made that would help students of other subjects.

I personaly would like to see a game cart focused on teaching people math skills and perhaps even science, grammer, spelling ect.

 I know alot of this has been done many times before on other platforms (and currently being done on the DS in Japan) but I feel like the technology of the handhelds have just reached the point where you could learn effectively just about any subject.

I was thinking how great it would be if I could buy a video Game that would aide me in learning Calculus. (I kind of want to self teach myself it before I take it next year) And that got me to thinking about how awesome it would be if I had a video game cart for each subject that I had a college course in. I realize the market for this  is probably little to none out side of educational circles. Honestly though, how many of you would be floored if one of the requirements for your algebra class was a Nintendo DS with a tutoring program on it. I'd probably shit my pants actually.

Just thought I'd ask what you guys thought about this. Keep in mind, I realize that this is probably a pipe dream unless I import from Japan that is.

Also, anyone who might have a list of available Educational DS games would recieve mad props if they posted it here. :)

Some guy wanted a DS game which could let you learn Japanese.
I know I had signed his petition on this forum, pity I never heard anything about it anymore :s;

Educational video games... that's like trying to learn math by playing hockey.

I think they're pointless.

I've learned alot over the years by using Education software that has come with my textbooks. I don't see why something similar to this wouldn't be useful or help with the learning experience.

As I said, I am not necessarily looking for a "game" persay but a nice little handheld program I can learn something with. I think porability is a must, because eventhough a laptop is handy I just can't whip it out if I have five minutes like I can a DS, or PDA.

Edutainment. I'm all for it.

Well if you think about it, dev costs for the DS are pretty low in comparison to the consoles, hell I'm sure some company out there already has a pretty decent program for the PC that ran or runs on Windows 98. I don;t see why they couldn't just port it and sell it for $30-50 bucks. I'd probably buy it for twice that if it was a decent program.

Considering the recent news about Brain Age actually helping test scores, I would say that they may not be quite so pointless as you think.
