Forums - Gaming - Anyone else only buying one console in the future?

You know It wasn't too long ago I would laugh/question why someone were to only buy one console. Even when I owned a PS2 there were quite a lot of reasons to buy a Gamecube or a XBox because both had their fair share of exclusives. Really, who would pass up the idea of owning even a Wii these days when Nintendo puts out such great titles?

However, now with over 100 360 Games/XBLA titles at my disposal I have to question why I own a Wii in the first place. It's hard enough for me to finish 2-3 games a month as is, and with the Wii I'm only addingmore and more games to my backlog.

Over the last week or so I debated with myself about getting a PS3 because of the insane ratings Uncharted 2 and MGS4 has received, but the more I think about it the more I tell myself I'll never finish themif I buy them. I think a lot of people (especially myself) fall into the trap of buying too many games. When you have multiple systems this makes matters more worst as your backlog continues to grow.

So after much debating and staring at my gigantic amount of XBox games (check out my collection) I've made the decision to only buy a XBox 720/whatever as my console of choice next generation. I just hopepeople realize I'm not doing this from a fanboy perspective but rather from a freetime perspective. Working forty hours a week doesn't give me the luxury to play as many games as I use to.

I'll probably still buy the next gameboy for handheld goodness but I don't buy as many DS games anymore anyways (usually 3 or so a year) so thats no biggie and the Gameboy systems are relatively affordable.

Anyone else overwhelmed by their backlog or are starting to feel more then one system is a bit overkill?

It's just that simple.

Ever since the 5th generation (PS1/N64/Saturn) I´ve owned two systems.. always a Playstation and a Nintendo console (unlike the 16 bit gen when I only owned the SNES)...and that´s the way I plan to continue.

You'll never know until you try.. I predict you'll be spending all your free time on those games if you get them. However if you dont, you will be losing out on great contents.

Yay 100th post :P

Consoles are like chips. You just can't have a single package.

I need Nintendo consoles every gen for just two only things: animal crossing and zelda.

Then the Sony console might come in interest.

I've only ever owned one console per generation, I don't see that changing in the future. There are too many games I still haven't finished, even some from last generation! Come to think of it, there may even be one or two from the generation before that as well... :s

I just use my 360 quite rarely, I still think I will buy a 720, but only if it uses a gamepad... if none of the next gen consoles do that then I will be in a tricky position

But anyway, my 360 has not been used for the past few months, and wont be used for a few more, but it didn't cost that much, and there are certainly enough games for it to be worth having

One console should be all you need. Especially if you can supplement your gaming diet with backwards-compatible games or downloadable games to get through the dry spells.

I will always have one main console and one main console only. Not enough time or money to get the most out of 2.

We sold our Wii. It was, unfortunately, a bit rubbish as a console in comparison to the HD equivalents as far as we were concerned. Now our Ps3s and PCs cover everything I and my family require. Wii had just one redeeming feature: Wii Fit, but that wasn't reason enough to keep it, especially as it looked absolutely terrible on our TV.

So, only buying one console in future: maybe. I may look at an HD offering from Nintendo in future as I like Nintendo games in general. That said, I have well over 100 games on PS3 now, and far more than that on PC, so I'm hardly missing out when it comes to gaming.

As for 360? Well, I can't think of a single reason to buy one, especially as you have to pay to play online, the console is hardly reliable, and I have access to almost every game worth having on the platform anyway. In fact, just typing that, I still can't get my head around paying to play online, especially as I get a far better experience online, for free, from my PC. Very odd.

Nope must have more then one...reason?

Well I must have all the great Nintendo games and I must also have all the great RPG's sadly neither one can be done with just one console.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)
