I really dought it,I think they were originally going to release the slim but not drop the price but activision forced them to by threatening to withdraw support of the ps3,so I hear.Plus they say they want to be profitable which they are probably saving alot of money on the slim but they droped the price 100 dollars,its been said they are losing around 75 dollars per console.I think sony will start to break even with the ps3 sometime late next year,but if they drop the price lets say 50 dollars then their lossing that much more so do they even want to especially since 299 is a good price point for the ps3.With that said is the next holiday season already going to be another 360 dominent one because most likely microsoft will drop the price of the 360 and massivly market natal,halo reach and perhaps gears of war 3 if its announced,I think it will be but we will see.What do you think?

First off Activision had absolutely nothing to do with it.

Sony will go for profitability in 2010 and has a great line-up in the first half of the year with God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5 and Final Fantasy XIII.

If somehow they would lose their momentum to Microsoft (and I doubt that), there would be a possibility for a price drop Fall 2010.

But I'd say that's very unlikely.

If it is money they need to spend, spend in on good advertising. (which I think they are doing now)

Doubt it, at best what they will do is bundle a game with the Slim for 299$ if they feel like they need to boost sales more...

The steam PS3 is bringing in week after week of good sales you wont be seeing a price cut anytime soon.

Activision might as well cut NDS, PSP, PS2, Wii, PC and other support :p
