First off Activision had absolutely nothing to do with it.
Sony will go for profitability in 2010 and has a great line-up in the first half of the year with God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5 and Final Fantasy XIII.
If somehow they would lose their momentum to Microsoft (and I doubt that), there would be a possibility for a price drop Fall 2010.
But I'd say that's very unlikely.
If it is money they need to spend, spend in on good advertising. (which I think they are doing now)
