dunno about DS, but I'm really happy with LBP, Disgaea2, Half-Minute Hero and another ton of games mentioned here already.

and looks like 2010 will be too. Persona 3 Portable (hopefully) and KH: BBS are really high on my wanted list.

The PSP is design to make profit on games that fail on the Wii. It's a port station.


The DS has a good lineup in JAPAN, and nowhere else, The PSP had a better lineup overall.

Phantasy Star Portable and MHFU beat the socks off most DS RPGs.  As long as we're in RPG-land, leo-j also forgot to mention Crimson Gem Saga, the Star Ocean remakes, and all the PSOne classic RPGs that hit the PSP this year, like Suikoden, Wild Arms 2, Final Fantasy VII, etc.

I have played them.. and no, they aren't in my profile, because updating my profile with all the games I own would take freaking days, and I have WAY better things to do (I tried the profile updating once... so I know how arduous it is :) ).

This is a silly discussion, but as an adult portable gamer (I don't own a DS, but I play with one all the time... I'm not going to explain why, so don't ask), the PSP destroyed the DS this year, but only if you qualify that statement with "with regards to RPGs".

I think you have to qualify the comparison with "in terms of game variety", or "sheer number of games", or "number of mario games", or "games for young folks or old folks" before you can claim the DS' lineup this year was "better".  The PSP had some amazing games this year... it was stellar.  Still, the DS is undeniably a beast.  Its tough to "beat" another console in every aspect, which is exactly why both the PSP and DS have a market, and will continue to do so.

The Mario and Luigi games definitely are the best when it comes to handheld games this gen............so the psp cant even win in the rpg genre.

I have a PSP-2000 and honestly the only reason Im keeping it is because of KH:BBS....once that game comes out and I beat it my psp is getting sold because of my disappointment with the handheld......the gaming drought that it has and the constant slew of mediocrity that keeps coming out for it every year (except this year) is appaling to say the least.

No contest the DS>>>>>PSP in every genre excluding shooters (the PSP sucks at that to just sucks less than the DS)

Oh I am so sorry, let me fix that for you.

The PSP has had a hell of a year! But it is hard to compete with the DS's massive library (This year).
It's a win-win.

I should have have proof read although we are talking about this year so I figured it was a given.

The PSP has more PS2 ports than Wii ones. Either way, almost all of the good games released this year weren't ports though, so that doesn't make any sense.

Most good DS games come to the U.S, with the exception of the Tales of series. So I don't know the basis for your statement....

@OP As an  owner of both platformers, and a mainly Handheld gamer, I found myself to enjoy more DS games, but some of the PSP games were of top quality. Now this isn't for everybody, but me having both DQIX and Pokemon Heart Gold really skews me toward the DS. To be fair though, if we are talking about US releases, they are pretty evenly matched.

I think both are great handhelds and I don't care if the one has the better lineup this year or next year or whatever.

Overall I prefer the DS due to its design/controls, its RPG/puzzle/RTS library and because it's the only system outside PC which gets original p&c adventure games*, but on the other hand unique, original and great games like LocoRoco, Patapon and Lumines along with some exclusive new RPGs and remakes were reason enough for me to buy a PSP.

(*Wii doesn't count for me in this context as - with the exception of one game - it only gets p&c ports)
