I agree with you. That's why I asked what's the point. |
The point was trying to keep comparisons (ie: market size then vs now, budget size then vs now) consistent.

yeah i know, my friends love it... but is it as good as final fantasy? :o
Valkyria Chronicles has the highest sales for a non-Final Fantasy srpg in the Americas I believe (of course I could be wrong). It doesn't surprise me when you consider that the PS3 doesn't have many traditional jrpgs. They have Eternal Sonata and Enchanted Arms. Cross-Edge I don't know too much about it. It might be a SRPG. But either way I hear it's not good. Demon's Souls and Folklore are ARPGs. Disgaea 3 is a SRPG and has less polish/production values than Valkyria Chronicles. So what competition does Valkyria Chronicles really have on the PS3 at the present time? SO4 International, WKC (I think. It's real-time but it has a party system and you have adventuring right? So that's a traditional jrpg as opposed to a ARPG) FFXIII, Resonance of Fate, and those NIS and Gust games are all upcoming releases. Chances are if you have a PS3 right now and you have a jrpg itch, you probably will buy Valkyria Chronicles. It's a SRPG, not a jrpg but if there isn't much in the way of traditional jrpgs to play on the PS3, you'd think that you might as well right? It's that simple. in Americas, practically all the traditional jrpgs at this point are on 360, Wii, DS and PSP. So this holiday season, especially post-299 slim hype (VC sales spiked up after the slim), Valkyria Chronicles is going to be popular with jrpg fans. Unless they ask for christmas money instead to buy the jrpgs getting released in February and March.
Now The Last Remnant, apparently that game sucks. I played the PC version demo a little bit and just didn't care to learn the nuances of the battle system. I just feel like there is better stuff out there to play on both 360 and PC.
The sequel will sell less than 200k though :-/
pirate riddled psp, lol.
And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

VC had very little promotion in Japan, and the anime came after the launch.

jarrod deeply believes, for reasons I can't explain, that Valkyria Chronicles had a huge amount of advertisement. I feel you are quite suited to make a comment on the advertisement though. I'd love to the conversation.

Yes, because the The Last Remnant was such an amazing game, right? Your flamebait isn't as good lately. You should work on it. Topic: That's fantastic, but people were complaining that we shouldn't be comparing a SRPG to JRPGs when it was selling less than games like The Last Remnant. Why the sudden change? Good accomplishment nonetheless. |
Maybe it wasn't good flamebait because it wasn't flamebait at all. I know, non-flamebait not being flamebait. Who would have thought?
But if anything this just goes back to my original point. People keep trashing TLR, but at the same time they're angry that it's not on PS3. This is the exact same response Infinite Undiscovery got. When WKC outsold it in Japan, most discussion devolved to this:
"Look Square! These are the type of sales you could have had, but you don't! HUR HUR HUR....!"
"But Infinite Undiscovery is a Microsoft IP, Square Enix only published it at the request of Microsoft. They couldn't put it on the PS3 even if they wanted to."
"LALALALALALALALA NOT LISTENING TO YOU!!"

For a Japanese STRATEGY RPG those sales are amazing.

TV cms, in-store promos, an anime (coinciding with the BEST version) a good 2 years of coverage in Famitsu (1 year after release even, basically unheard of for a non FF/DQ/MH game) tell me Sega didn't skimp on this. It's not FFXIII or MH3 or anything, but it's gotten a far, far bigger promotion than any SRPG I can think of. Got a bigger ad blitz than any Sega game last year too bar the Yakuza games.
Why do people think it got little promotion actually?
