The magazines were printed before the price drop announcement was made and SCEA didn't want a repeat of the E3 leakage so they didn't inform anyone.
sony has very strict policies in regards to which of their products you must sell and maximum price points. a friend of mine worked at a local electronics store and the manager pulled sony's dvd players for some reason, so they revoked his authorised dealer status and stopped sending him any new product. this was 5 yrs ago, but still, i doubt it's changed much.
Gamestop has it for $499 posted on the front window, that was a day after the announcement, maybe those stores are slow?

A storefront ad and a print ad are two totally different things. I'm not shocked that the price hasn't been dropped in the print ads.
I do think it'll hurt the spike in sales, but over the long run i think they'll get the same quantity of sales. Think of it like this, a person sees the new price and says to himself , I'm going to buy a PS3 today. Instead of that happening uniformly across the US, it is now going to happen region by region. Overall everyone gets to see the new price, so you get the same effect.

Has there been much advertisement for the price drop by Sony, because I've seen loads of bliboard and ads on the sides of buses in London for the new £300 PS3. All it says is: "feel the full force of HD Games and Movies for £299 (same as elite and £50 more than premium)" (roughly) with an explosion in the middle of the desert

Then you'd be demoted or fired. You can't just screw around with inventory like that on a whim. If you were a store manager, you'd probably know that.

That's why when I write out a long post I will write it out in Word so it can catch errors I may make as well as I have a copy open that I can copy and past again should I get a problem. And if the site goes down, I can save a copy of that post until I am able to get on again and write it out.
