I didnt say it was...nor would I...I just pointed out that you didnt read the facts in order to promote a viewpoint that is nullified by the facts...

Walloons don't want to be independent, they want to keep the country whole. They know they need Flanders for money. I think some newspapers did a couple off big polls in the Netherlands (a good while back) and the majority were for it. I for one want us to stay a country, but fix all the bullshit that is going on. Running away isn't the option. ... Beer is. |
The Netherlands would lvoe to have the Flemmish side of Belgium "back" like it was pre-1833 (it was somewhere around that date.) Thinking about it, we wouldn't have had that whole Westerschelde debacle, Economy wise in general we would prosper, more universities as a whole in the country, Flanders (as several provinces, "belgian Limburg and brabant etc) finally participating again in large international futball events...
But yeah I know you guys would rather have your own country ;).
I'd try to keep Wilders out myself aswell. If he'd ever meet up with de Winters... damn...
On subject, the favourite and probably best candidate for the job won. Rompuy was easily the most "diplomatable" and apparantly held in high regard in Belgium which is quite a feat considering the termoil.
My guess is that when it is time for re-election there's a large chance that Balkenende takes the spot.

ignorant people only...
er, the UK parliment is probably even more corrupt, and talking of unelected people in power, the Lords? the Queen?
Moats and duck islands are small fry compared to this.

| kowenicki said: @scifiboy Ignorant maybe... thats not the point... jesus 'id wager their are millions in the US that think Europe is a country. The UK parliament is nowhere near as bent as the EU.... nowhere near, do some research And as you very well know...The Queen has no power and neither do the Lords really. |
1) why should we care what some very stupid americans think?
2) okay, please do show me some evidence of this then, I know the UK has all kinds of seedy things going on, the saudi thing a couple of years ago and the F1 sponsorship come to mind, cash for peerages, MP's expenses, et al, only EU thing I know of is the pay they get just to turn up
3) the Queen technically does, but just wouldnt dare use it, you brought up unelected people in power being bad though, so it is relevant, even if it probably wont be used...The Lords can block, alter or even stop policys from being made...

I know, I just wanted to sound dramatic Besides, Obama is second, Chuck Norris is first. |
I'd say the Chinese president has more power then Barack Obama. Obama is having a hard time getting anything done, but atleast he's trying and he will succeed in some things, it will just take a while lol.
It's quite an honour for my country to have the first EU president. He's certainly not the most powerful man in the world(or the second one for that matter), but I think he ranks quite high now.

And what's up with those UK boycots on Belgian politicians? I read in my newspaper that 2 ex-prime ministers of Belgium were refused for some (relatively) big EU posts, mainly because the UK didn't want it. |
Yeah, what's up with that?
We shouldn't allow these guys anymore at Ypres on 11th november =/
Why would you commerate your dead soldiers in a circus country anyway?

the UK media, other than the BBC and Channel 4, is predominantley Right Wing, especially the murdoch owned bits, the Right apparently has majour objections to anything even remotley related to the EU
im pro-EU btw, one of the few in the UK, sure I think the EU could do with some reform, but the UK pulling out would be a disaster imo, both economically and diplomatically.
Samus, those dead soldiers are there because Belgium couldn't defend itself so Britain had to do it for her.
Shouldn't be allowed at Ypres????? That's low Samus real low.
