Walloons don't want to be independent, they want to keep the country whole. They know they need Flanders for money. I think some newspapers did a couple off big polls in the Netherlands (a good while back) and the majority were for it. I for one want us to stay a country, but fix all the bullshit that is going on. Running away isn't the option. ... Beer is. |
The Netherlands would lvoe to have the Flemmish side of Belgium "back" like it was pre-1833 (it was somewhere around that date.) Thinking about it, we wouldn't have had that whole Westerschelde debacle, Economy wise in general we would prosper, more universities as a whole in the country, Flanders (as several provinces, "belgian Limburg and brabant etc) finally participating again in large international futball events...
But yeah I know you guys would rather have your own country ;).
I'd try to keep Wilders out myself aswell. If he'd ever meet up with de Winters... damn...
On subject, the favourite and probably best candidate for the job won. Rompuy was easily the most "diplomatable" and apparantly held in high regard in Belgium which is quite a feat considering the termoil.
My guess is that when it is time for re-election there's a large chance that Balkenende takes the spot.
