The US is really the only important territory.  As long as MS keeps winning there, that is all that counts.  Others is way too fractured to have much of an impact. 

The US is MS's stronghold, and maintaining a lead there might be all MS need.

In overall terms however, the US is not the only important territory. Not by a long shot. Others moves huge amounts of hardware and software each week and is vital for the industry to survive at the size it is.

Take a look at total PS2 sales for example, even the numbers on this site. The PS2 moved more consoles in Others then NA.
