Forums - Nintendo - Malstrom: The industry's hostility against Nintendo

Sega fukd them selves over wth bad management. At their prime, they had more talent and balls than they had business sense.

Nintendo needs some of those Sega balls these days...they have been playing it completely safe for the last few years.

Otherwise, he is wrong as usual. Industry goes where the money is. Howmany 3rd party flops have there been on the wii? Not to mention that working with the Wii means working with yesterdays technology. People like to work with latest tech...

The red and teal contradict with each other... Red pretty much hits the nail in the head, teal applies only to big names like Hideo Kojima.

OT: Third parties have fazed out Nintendo since the N64 came about. Especially during this generation, Nintendo has been breaking records left and right, while 3rd parties glared at their million $ losses. Then, after 3 years, they BEGIN to make some effort on the platform, but to be honest, it's too late. Look at them cry about and bitch about Wii's userbase not being "hardcore" despite them buying millions of Zeldas, SSBB, SMG, etc. They are simply laying in the beds they made.

He is right, to a point, i think. There definitely is some unwarranted hostility about Nintendo out there, and you did see it even last generation, when there would be PS2/Xbox games that didn't have GameCube equivalents, whereas a simple glance of install bases showed that if it was worth it to release it on Xbox, it was worth it to release it on GameCube

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Well its a risk to develop for something new. You think that Konami, capcom, EA and Activision should have seen Nintendos vision? and dropped what was making them money to make Wii titles when the Wii launched? The boat can't turn that fast my freind... Besides, Wii gets decent 3rd party support.

EA gave it a fair shake and Dead Space Extraction is awesome...too bad no one bought it. Capcom also gave it lots of exclusives and decent ports. Sega developed for the wii as they are not really made out of money these days, and some games worked (sonic ones) while others did so so.

In any case, I am glad Wii broke new gaming ground...its fun to play my Wii once every week just as an alternative to Xbox. But now that nintendo made loads of cash, its time for them to embrace technology as well as keep innovating.

Would it kill them to put TV out port for a DS? What about a hard drive storage for the Wii? Maybe even an online network service that allows for voice that? HD console would be nice too...they will have much easier time with publishers if they made the wii a little bit more powerful.

Resident Evil 5 in 480p and wii controls would have been enjoyed by many at this point if this were true...

Other than Ms paid exclusives and PC ports...this is compeltely untrue.  Xbox was a Pentium 3 that used direct X so it got some quick and dirty PC ports. But most of the games that weren't PC ports and weren't MS exclusives were on both GC and Xbox.

Nintendo must have really done something to piss off those third parties when they were on top all those years ago.

Indeed they did. They were so much better than them.

Sometimes disc space was an issue. The games that used up a load of gigs didn't get a Gamecube port. Even RE4 was on 2 discs on GC.

I understand that the tide couldn't have turned fast enough for third parties to embrace the system, yet 3 years into the Wii's cycle is too much. Please explain why on earth did we get Soul Calibur Legends instead of IV or even a new game (PSP got one!), or Castlevania Judgement instead of a next 2D platformer? We got a Dragon Quest on-rails game for crying out loud!

This is getting ridiculous. Third parties cannot comprehend the simple fact that Wii gamers =/= morons, 90 year olds, and casuals. Monster Hunter 3 is closing 1 million in Japan and is the best selling third party console game yet this gen. Resident Evil 4 sold more than 1.5 million and we instead got another on-rails shooter.

It's not about the risk. It has been proven that the system can move 3rd party software. You just cannot take a fair share from Nintendo if you don't play your A game.

As for Nintendo being too conservative and stubborn, then yes, totally agree. Where's my Wii demo channel, Ninty? No more friend codes crap. And it took them 3 years to start using the power of bundles and colors, and they mostly do that in the weakest region (Japan) while the biggest (US) still has the same SKU for 3 years!

What the hell is the "Game Industry"? Some autonomous omnipotent creature?

@routsounmanman

Wii is getting casltevania rebirth btw and Contra rebirth came out few months back and kicks ass.

I think capcom had a good idea with the first Resident Evil on rails shooter and the game sold. So now they are releasing a sequel to make some extra $$$...I bought it today btw lol.

RE5 would cost too much to downsize on to the wii. I mean RE5 is much more complex than dead rising and that game was laughably butchered to be proted.

I agree that some western developers have ignored the wii...but I dont think its cause they want to boycott nintendo. They jsut don't want to be bothered figuring out how to make the motion controls work for their games best.

All I know is that I am very happy with my wii and the games its getting...however it is not my main gaming console this gen. It never was, and I doubt it will ever be.
I see how someone would be angry if all they had was the wii and were hoping to play the latest 3rd party titles...

Define "Game Industry" because Im sure there are a lot of publishers who have banked off of good Wii and DS sales.
